STATEMENT OF WORK
1) BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Lymphocyte Activation Section (LAS) of the Laboratory of Immunogenetics (LIG) investigates mechanisms involved in cell signaling. The mission focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the signaling functions of immune cell receptors. This work encompasses a wide spectrum of experimental approaches from structural determination of immune receptors to live-cell image analysis of the behavior of chemotactic receptors. The molecular mechanisms underlying the activation of B lymphocytes to proliferate and differentiate into clones of antibody producing cells. The B cell activation, which is triggered by the binding of foreign antigens to the B cell antigen receptor, initiates a signaling cascade that leads to the transcription of a variety of genes associated with B cell activation. This targets antigens into the cell for processing and presentation to helper T cells uses the tools of biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology to dissect these functions and to understand their regulation. Knowledge gained from these studies to develop new strategies for enhancing antibody responses in the design of vaccines and to deactivate antibody responses in autoimmune disease. This acquisition directly addresses this mission by providing flow cytometer operation at peak performance.
2) PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ACQUISITION
The scope of this acquisition is to provide a service agreement for a LSRFortessa X-20 SORP, High Throughput Sampler, and FACS Flow Supply System, which includes five (5) lasers. These instruments are constantly in use daily and if it were put out of action due to lack of maintenance or mechanical failure then ability of the investigators in the LIG to conduct their research would be severely handicapped. It is for this reason that a Service Agreement is essential.
