About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the FAA Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Integration Office. The purpose of this RFI is to seek feedback from aviation stakeholders on new entrants (e.g., UAS, Advanced Air Mobility, etc.) research areas that can support and inform standards, technology development, and the safe, secure, and efficient integration of new entrants into the National Airspace System (NAS). The RFI outlines proposed research focus areas, such as beyond visual-line-of-sight operations, traffic management, electronic conspicuity, and infrastructure enablers. Respondents are asked to provide feedback on the adequacy of these research areas and to suggest any additional areas. Responses to the RFI must be submitted via email to the specified Contracting Officer by December 2, 2024. The FAA may use the feedback received to inform the development of a UAS Broad Agency Announcement.

3. Background
Research is foundational for the safe integration of new entrants into the NAS, including but not limited to UAS and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) vehicles. Research enables informed policies, procedures, regulations, and operations to support the safe and secure integration of new entrants into the NAS. The FAA implements and updates a common framework for characterizing research to meet the agency’s mission and goals for safely integrating new entrants. This framework enables strategic planning and prioritizing of research investments to inform data-driven decisions for rulemaking, policy, certification, and operations.
4. Request for Information
Based on your understanding of the anticipated expansion and evolution of business cases and/or operational use cases for new entrants in the National Airspace System (NAS), is the following set of research areas adequate to support and/or inform standards, technology development, etc. for the safe, secure, and efficient integration of new entrants (e.g.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Advanced Air Mobility, etc.) into the NAS.? If not, please comment on and/or add to this list.
