Statement of Work:
Shallow-Water Multibeam Echosounder Survey Systems for NOAA Emergency Response, August 1, 2010
Background The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Navigation Response Branch (NRB) requires two versatile shallow-water multibeam echosounder systems (SWMB) for emergency response work aboard NOAA & non-NOAA vessels.
Because of the nature of response work, a low powered and small top side form factor solution is required to mitigate diverse situations where these systems will be deployed. It is also preferable for the SWMB unit to have all sonar processing electronics integrated into the sonar head, thus eliminating the requirement for additional space while maximizing portability.
Minimum Specifications
1. General Terms:
a. Capability of conducting a minimum of IHO order 1 surveys in water depths between 1 and 100 meters at vessel speeds up to 6 knots.
b. Minimum of 128 degrees of swath coverage with at least 256 focused beams.
c. Operating frequency between 200 kHz and 400kHz.
d. Beam width no larger than a half-degree by one-degree.
2. General Systems Features:
a. Physical footprint of the topside unit shall be of a small form factor less than 3U (Rack Units) to accommodate various installation environments typical of response work.
b. Average power consumption that does not exceed 50 watts is desired to utilize portable power generators.
c. System shall include:
a. SONAR
b. Cable detachable sound velocimeter co-located with transducer mounting frame.
c. Snippets backscatter data output capability.
d. SONAR Pole Mount allowing installation on different vessels.
e. Transducer mounting frame with sound velocimeter mounting bracket and hardware.
4. Software/Computer:
a. Manufacturer shall supply Accuracy Values for Total Propagated Uncertainty Computation. (http://www.caris.com/tpu/idx_sonar.cfm)
b. Data output from the sonar must be compatible with HYPACK/HYSWEEP acquisition software.
