DRAFT

Statement of Work

Alumni Engagement Program

GENERAL INFORMATION

Statement of Need, Purpose, and/or Objective:

AmeriCorps NCCC is seeking to determine how to achieve the greatest benefit from its large alumni base. At present only a few of the program graduates participate in any AmeriCorps alumni activities. The program needs to determine the best activities for alumni to perform that will encourage their continued community involvement and provide the greatest support to the program. We need to learn the best way to encourage participation in alumni activities, how to get alumni to work together on projects that support the program, and how to motivate them to be advocates of the program with other organizations, partners and stakeholders. A fully engaged alumni will help the program to grow in resources and membership.

Background Information:

This will be a new award to provide a guide on establishing and implementing a program to receive significant sustained support from the NCCC alumni community that will help AmeriCorps NCCC achieve its mission.

AmeriCorps NCCC has over 30,000 alumni who have graduated since the program’s inception in 1993. Each year the program graduates approximately 1,300 members. NCCC service is seen as part of lifetime commitment to community service. Alumni are encouraged to register for AmeriCorps Alums, where they have access to the NCCC group pages. In AmeriCorps Alums graduates can access other member’s contact information, chat with other alums and post messages. Alumni also have access to information about employment, volunteer opportunities, how to write resumes and job fairs. AmeriCorps NCCC has an email platform with a list of all NCCC alumni which is used to send messages about events occurring in the agency.

Unfortunately, neither the website nor the messages to the alumni have generated significant interest in participating in alumni activities that support the program, or performing as program advocates to other individuals or organizations.

The specific mission of AmeriCorps NCCC is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct team-based national and community service. To achieve this mission requires high caliber members, relevant projects and the commitment of local, state and national organizations to provide support. The program alumni can help AmeriCorps NCCC to achieve these goals. Alumni can work individually and together on service projects that promote participation in AmeriCorps NCCC. They can act as program champions in their communities and states to encourage coordination with AmeriCorps NCCC in addressing local and regional needs.
