STATEMENT OF WORK

ZYNQ CORE DEVICE PORT OF ARTIQ EXPERIMENTAL CONTROL

SYSTEM (A.K.A. “ARTIQ ZYNQ”)

The Ion Storage Group at NIST performs a variety of quantum computing, quantum simulation, and optical clock experiments using trapped ions. These experiments are very complex and require advanced real-time classical control. The ARTIQ experimental control system, developed specifically for the Ion Storage Group, is used to operate our experiments. For the next generation of quantum information and clock experiments requiring real-time feedback and complex on-the-fly decision-making, we require greatly improved low-latency computational capability on the ARTIQ core device. We, therefore, require software and gateware to be developed for a port of ARTIQ that will run on a core device with an FPGA with an integrated high-performance processor. For compatibility and ease of integration with existing ARTIQ design architecture, software, gateware, and hardware, this core device must be based on the Xilinx Zynq-7000 series of FPGAs with integrated dual-core ARM processors.

Shipping and Delivery

The ARTIQ software and gateware developed under this contract must be supplied as deliverables in two formats:

- All source code must be made available, under either LGPLv3+ or two-clause BSD license, by posting in an appropriate branch of a public GitHub repository. The ARTIQ github repository at https://www.github.com/m-labs/artiq/ and the MiSoC github repository at https://www.github.com/m-labs/misoc/ are the preferred repositories for the source code.

- Compiled binaries of ARTIQ, as well as compiled FPGA bitstreams, must be provided as conda packages for download and installation, in an equivalent manner to the currently available conda packages for ARTIQ 4 binaries and NIST QC2 and NIST Clock bitstreams.

All items must be delivered as described above no later than 12 months after the contract award date.

Inspection and Acceptance

Upon completion of deliverables, which shall include delivery of both source code and conda-installable binaries and bitstreams as described above, the Government will perform functional tests using Government hardware and software to ensure correct functionality.

Government Furniture Equipment

Only if necessary – NIST ARTIQ backplane, DDS, and TTL hardware will be loaned by Government to Contractor to allow functional testing. If such a loan occurs, loaned hardware must be returned to the Government upon completion of the contract.
