TITLE: Combo AFM/Fluorescence Imager Requesting Lab/Division/Group: PML/686/11
Specifications:
Item 1: Combo AFM/Fluorescence Imager
To meet the project’s measurement needs described above, it is necessary to purchase an combination atomic force microscope (AFM) and fluorescence imager with the following capabilities.
1. An Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) for operation with and without an integrated inverted optical microscope including necessary baseplate, sample translator, and sample holder.
2. The AFM will allow common imaging modes: contact, non-contact or tapping, phase, and lateral force, in addition to non-imaging ode: force/distance measurements. The AFM will accommodate standard AFM probes. The AFM will operate in air and be capable of operating in liquid.
3. The AFM will have a top view, integrated video optical microscope with light source and CMOS camera for viewing alignment of diode light with AFM probe cantilever.
4. The AFM must come with a minimum of a 1” Z travel to accommodate thick samples/holders and sample changes.
5. The AFM must have a piezoelectric scanner capable of at least 40 micron scans in the X and Y axes with linearity of less than 1%, and up to 15 microns in the z axis with linearity of less than 5%.
6. The AFM operating without integration to an inverted optical microscope must provide imaging with Z noise < 200 pm.
7. AFM control hardware and software must be provided; software protocols must be provided and must be capable of being modified by NIST. Software must be compatible with Windows 10, 64 bit OS.
8. The AFM will accommodate samples in petri dishes or mounted to standard glass microscope slides with at least a 1” sample translation stage.
9. The vendor will provide an integrated, inverted optical microscope as part of the system. A vendor provided inverted optical microscope will come with a ultraviolet lamp and filters to perform fluorescence microscopy, phase contrast attachments, objective lenses, and a C-mount CMOS video camera.
10. Documentation with schematics and CAD drawings of both the AFM and integrated inverted optical microscope must be provided.
