STATEMENT OF WORK
Wing 6 Anechoic Chamber Transmit Antenna Positioner Linear Rail System Servo Drive and Related Components Upgrade and Installation
NB672020-19-02890
Requisitioner Contact Information Name: Christopher L. Holloway Email Address: christopher.holloway@nist.gov Phone: 303-497-6184
LAB REQUESTING SERVICE: Microfabrication Group, Quantum Electromagnetics Division, Physical Measurements Laboratory, National Institute of Standards and Technology
1. BACKGROUND INFORMATION
NIST-Boulder has a state-of-the-art research laboratory (the Katharine Bloggett Gebbie Building) to support the most sensitive research done at NIST. Included in this building is a Class 100 microelectronics fabrication facility, called the Boulder Micro-Fabrication Facility (BMF). Among the many critical pieces of equipment in this laboratory are a Heidelberg DWL 2000 and a Heidelberg MLA 150. If either tool is inoperable, NIST mission critical work is halted since these tools are a critical step in many NIST mission critical devices. In order to keep a high tool uptime, the BMF requires a service contract to maintain these tools and offer support if a tool becomes inoperable.
2. OBJECTIVES
3. SCOPE
The Contractor shall replace the existing servo motors and control system with a current state-of-the-art drive and control system on the existing X-Y positioner hardware. The Contractor shall modify the existing hardware as needed to mount the new motors, encoders, limit switches, and other components to provide a complete system. The control system shall provide both manual control (pendant) and external computer control of the positioner and be compatible with current laboratory software. The result of the retrofit will be a fully functional, safety compliant, fail-safe, linear two axis X-Y positioning system. The Contractor shall then install the refurbished X-Y positioner in the proper position at the antenna port of the anechoic chamber aligned with the linear axis of the interior robotic system. All fabrication, installation and purchasing of hardware and software described below will be done by the Contractor unless otherwise explicitly stated.

4. TASKS
a. Overview
The Contractor shall replace outdated motors and related hardware with a state-of-the-art motion system and install the complete refurbished X-Y positioner into the proper position at the transmit antenna port of the anechoic chamber in Room 1-4611.
b. Specific Tasks
The Contractor shall provide all support for project oversight, administration and technical execution of this action. The Contractor shall complete the following tasks:
(1) Replace the existing drive motors, encoders, limit switches, brakes, and
Compumotor control system with new components that perform the following:
(a) Move and control the two lead-screw positioning axes to within 100 microns* as measured by NIST-provided laser tracker.
i. Specification met by approaching the commanded point from the same direction multiple times. Each rail will be commanded at the beginning of motion, ¼, ½, ¾ and full motion range. run three times. RMS of repeatability <100 microns.
ii. Specific points for each axis will be allowed to be entered and then both rails will move toward commanded point
(b) Provide for manual (pendant control) and external computer control of all motion functions with readout for position and status.
i. Servo controller should provide remote communication interface drivers such as C style dynamically linked library and/or be VISA compatible, for remote programming via Python.
ii. Controller shall provide remote access to motion commands (e.g. position, velocity, acceleration, etc.) and status queries (e.g. in motion, errors, etc.)
iii. System shall remember location, motion settings and status in the event of a power failure. The system should restart in the last configuration and allow for a system reset to default conditions when instructed by the operator.
(c) Provide hard limit switched and programmable soft limit positions.
(d) Provide ability to preset programmed positions with one button “GO TO” command from both pendant and external software. The “GO TO” shall meet the positioning accuracy stated in 1*.
(e) Provide multiple emergency stop buttons around platform.
(f) Provide motion brakes for vertical axis that activate when not moving or under power-fail or E-stop conditions to prevent the table from moving under load.
(g) Provide method to prevent movement if any foreign object or personnel are below the vertical carriage and table.
(2) Install the positioner at the transmit port of the anechoic chamber.
(a) Clean and rust-proof steel mounting plates (mounting plates provided by NIST) or if necessary replace existing mounting plates with newly designed attachment hardware.
(b) Fasten the mounting plates to the concrete floor. (Floor drilling may have to be done by NIST facilities personnel.)
(c) Place the two-axis positioner in place on the mounting plates. Align the horizontal axis rails of the two-axis positioner parallel in both dimensions (azimuth and elevation) with the linear rails inside the anechoic chamber (see Fig. 2). Level the table cross range to AC Cart axis.
i. Horizontal Motion – best fit line of forward 75% of motion to be parallel to the motion of the robot base to within 0.007 degree* in both elevation and azimuth. Line calculated using best fit points while dynamically moving.
Measured by:
• Measurements of a Corner Cube Reflector (CCR) affixed to the table mounting corners.
• Taking dynamic motion without measuring beginning and ending 12.5%
• Measuring spatial scan w tracker taking data at 1 mm spacing
• 4 lines created by a CCR at each corner
• Best fit line will be within 0.007 degrees of level as measured by the laser tracker.
• This is an iterative measurement as alignment will have to be optimized
• Compound angle between the positioner and AC Cart axis is the root sum square of the elevation and azimuth angle difference.
• This is NOT a flatness specification.
ii. Vertical Motion –
• Vertical motion of the table
• Using the same CCR positions as the horizontal. Roll in the table, tilting in and out of the page in (top of Fig 2) will be minimized to less than 0.01 degrees
* The ability to meet this requirement may be limited by the existing construction and condition of the positioner rails, beams, and leadscrews. Any adjustment on the requirement must be approved by NIST.
** If the contractor feels that replacing the transmit positioner with a new positioning system with the same table size, range of motion and weight capability is more feasible and cheaper, they may submit a bid for a new table as well.
