About this file

This is a NASA Request for Information (RFI) solicitation for the design and turnkey installation of a High Purity Air (HPA) Compressed Air System at NASA Stennis Space Center's A-1 Rocket Test Stand. The system must support daily normal operations and rocket engine drying, with installation on the east side of the ATCC (A Complex Test Control Center) and air tie-ins within 100 feet of the proposed compressor site. The system must deliver pressures up to 3000 psig, with flow rates of up to 300 SCFM for standard operations and a minimum of 1000 SCFM after drying for rocket engine drying cycles occurring 4-6 times annually for 10-12 hours per cycle. High purity air requirements include oxygen levels of 19.5-23.5%, water content not exceeding the equivalent of -53.9°C dew point, volatile hydrocarbons limited to 15 maximum ppm, and particulate specifications of 25 particles for 30-100 microns and zero particles greater than 100 microns.

The RFI requests industry input on system configuration including fully self-contained compressor units (Bauer, Sauer, or equivalent) with VFD capability, dryers capable of maintaining -53.9°C dew point continuously, and controls utilizing Allen-Bradley (preferred) or Siemens systems. The electrical and mechanical scope encompasses MCCs, transformers, breaker panels, all piping, valves, and pipe tie-ins. NASA is seeking industry responses addressing nine specific questions regarding compressor operation effects on dew point, startup time to achieve -55°C dew point, dryer heating requirements, series dryer configuration recommendations, budgetary cost estimates for both the complete turnkey system and hardware-only components, recommended project timeline, and risk considerations related to system reliability and redundancy.
