The GE Carescape B450 monitoring system is being required. The Edward Hines Jr. VAH is standardizing the facility patient monitors with the GE monitoring system. The GE Carescape B450 monitoring system is part of the continued facility wide upgrade (B450 Upgrade Program).

Over the past 2-years, the Hines VAH has been conducting a facility wide B450 upgrading within many services and units. This requirement ensures that standardization is present throughout the facility. This standardization will result in improving both training and service repairs of the staff. Nursing staff will be able to cross cover multiple units, in having same products in place. While the HTM department will be able to service products faster in having standardized products in place.

The B450 Upgrade Program at the Hines VAH, over the past 2 years, includes purchases of the

B450 or B650 GE Carescape Monitors including last years purchase for the MICU was B450 upgraded; approximately 16 monitors, to where the facility is on schedule with FY19 procurement packet by the Surgery Service for the same upgrade, another 16 monitors, within that procurement is also B450 upgrades in Operating Rooms, Ambulatory Surgery Unit for another 10-12 monitors per unit).

If the monitors were another manufacturer, it would result in increased costs up to $165,000.00 for trade in value, just on the Emergency Room monitors. There is additional trade in values that will be obtained within the other monitors procurements part of the B450 Upgrade Program at the Hines VAH. Recent purchases part of the B450 Upgrade Program has resulted in discount savings of approximately $272,000.00 in trade in value.
