NCTAMS LANT

RFQ:

REQUEST FOR SPECIFICATION CLARIFICATION

RFC 001

NAME OF CONTRACTOR:

SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.:

PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO:

TITLE: NCTAMS LANT - P-913 and Building N-26 OSP FIber Optic Splicing. Solicitation # N7027221Q0026

QUESTION:

1. Is the trunk cable that is to be spliced to in manhole 11 the same 288 that goes from N26 to the new building?

2. What fibers are we to use in the 288 cable and how many will be spliced to the outlying buildings?

3. Are the outlying buildings fibers tagged in MH 11, and if so will we be allowed to cut them without tracing, tagging and identifying for ourselves?

4. Is the trunk cable that we will be splicing to a ribbon cable or a loose buffer tube cable?

5. What is the purpose of the 72 fiber tie in M51, and where does it originate and end?

6. Paragraph 7.1.2 – Is this a wall mounted type FO splice chamber that splices the OSP FO cable on the wall in Building N-26, Room 1225? Here, there are (2 ea.) 144 strand pigtailed FO cables that are pre-connectorized to a 288 port FO patch panel, that will be located inside a specialty floor mounted fiber cabinet? Or, is it just a standard relay rack mounted in the Equipment Room with a new regular 288 port fiber optic patch panel? If it’s the specialty cabinet, can you give me a distance to the FO cabinet from the wall mount splice chamber? Also, could I get the manufacturer or the FO cabinet? I’m asking because this type of fiber optic infrastructure is quite a bit more expensive than a standard 288 port FOPP in a relay rack or cabinet.

ANSWER:

1. NO it is not the MB-100 trunk cable.

2. Fibers 145-288 are the theoretical counts available. 1-144 are in use for an existing connection between M-51&N-26. The 24SM to W-143 will be spliced into a separate existing cable in N-26.

3. Yes they are tagged, however, I do suggest doing a double check prior to cutting services. Fibers can be pulled freely from manhole to vault.

4. Loose tube singles

5. The purpose is to connect the two rooms to be able to patch to existing fiber going to N-26 for circuit migrations.

6. NO it is a floor mounted cabinet. A 144 corning LC standard fiber rack mounted panel will work. The entire 288 does not need to be spliced we will only utilize 144 of the 288 that is in an existing case in the vault located at N-26. You will need about 150’ of plenum fiber to make it to the splice.
