About this file
This Performance Work Statement (PWS) details requirements for HF ion cleaning of T64 stage 3 and F404 turbine nozzle segments for the Fleet Readiness Center East (FRC-E) at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina. The cleaning process involves removing oxides and sulfides from nickel, cobalt, and iron base superalloy turbine nozzles to prepare them for subsequent braze repairs. Specific technical requirements include creating a continuous denuded surface layer between 0.0005 and 0.001 inches deep, with intermittent denudation up to 0.003 inches, and ensuring the layer is free from yttrium, titanium, and aluminum.
The document lists multiple specific nozzle types to be serviced, including Stage 3 Turbine Nozzles (with NSN numbers 2840-00-998-6812, 2840-01-351-4850, 2840-01-456-2601) and F404 High and Low Pressure Turbine Nozzle Segments. The contractor must process and return nozzles within 10 business days of receipt, with an additional 10 days allowed if a second cleaning cycle is required. Shipping is FOB Destination to N65923 FRCE Receiving Officer at Cherry Point, North Carolina. The primary contract point of contact is Teresa Harper from MRO LOGISTICS, Acquisitions Procurement Division, with technical support from Kevin Smith.

COMFRC Mission
1.0 INTRODUCTION: The Fleet Readiness Center East (FRC-E) is a tenant command located within MCAS Cherry Point, NC.
FRC-E is charged with the administration of unique repair procedures on various gas turbine engine components. Nickel, cobalt, and iron base super alloy turbine nozzles require a Hydrogen Fluoride (HF) Ion activated gas cleaning for removal of oxides and sulfides from their surfaces for subsequent braze repairs.
2.0 Scope & Requirement Background:
This Performance Work Statement (PWS) describes the requirements needed to HF ion clean T64 stage 3 turbine nozzles and F404 turbine nozzle segments. The approximate weight of a nozzle is five (5) pounds.
2.1 Modifications to this document of any kind require prior approval from FRC-E, MCAS Cherry Point, NC. Any such alterations will be authorized and performed at the convenience of the U.S. Government and will become the property of the U.S.
Government.
3.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENT: The following standard is a part of this document as referenced to the extent specified herein. The latest edition of this standard must be used unless otherwise specified.
3.1 ASTM-D-3951, Standard Practice for Commercial Packing
4.0 REQUIREMENTS:
4.1 The contractor will perform HF Ion activated gas cleaning of the nozzles and return the nozzles to the Government. Return shipment of the part(s) shall not exceed 10 business days after receipt of part(s) or 10 additional business days for additional required cycles. The HF Ion activated gas cleaning process must conform to the following requirements:
a. A continuous denuded surface layer between 0.0005 and 0.001 inches deep at the base metal surface and intermittent denudation up to 0.003 inch deep. Denuded layer shall be free from yttrium, titanium, and aluminum.
b. There will be no continuous intergranular attack of the carbide phases; however, non- continuous intergranular attack up to
0.003-inch deep is acceptable below the denuded surface layer.
4.2 If evidence of oxide on the surface of the nozzles is identified following the cleaning process, the nozzles shall be grit blasted using 180-grit or finer aluminum oxide to remove visual surface oxidation and reprocessed for an additional cleaning cycle.
It is acceptable for components other than those processed per this document to be present in the furnace during HF cleaning cycles.
