About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers file for Solicitation N6817126QS015 concerning a Birds Cannon System, dated 24 July 2026. The Q&A addresses four key inquiries from potential contractors regarding installation and operational requirements.
The questions and answers clarify the following contractor responsibilities: (1) contractors must install the cannons on the airfield; cannons are delivered in large wooden boxes and placed on wooden pallets, though the government notes wooden pallets are not a sustainable long-term platform and requests pictures of proposed solutions for relocation; (2) contractors must provide pictures and specifications for the Purivox DESK antenna and mounting bracket, with the government determining optimal installation location; (3) the contractor is responsible for filling propane gas in the cannons during installation; (4) the system must meet relocation requirements specified in section 3.0 with handles and self-contained design, but wooden pallets alone do not satisfy this requirement due to deterioration concerns. No pricing information, response dates, or award dates are specified in this Q&A document.

Solicitation N6817126QS015 – BIRDS CANNON SYSTEM
Questions and Answers:
Date 24 JULY 2026 - Question 1, 2, 3 and 4:
Q1 Would it be required from the contractor to install the cannons on the airfield? They do come in large wooden boxes, which the sides would be removed and the cannons would be left on the wooden pallets. Basically like that here in Narvik Airport / Norway (without the red poles).
A1 Yes contractor should install the cannons on the airfield. The website is not viewable.
Q2 The tower control unit the Purivox DESK. Would it be required to install the antenna wire as well or will this be done by your own personal? It will be a antenna wire as well as an antenna mounting bracket (usually done by the airport / airfields own personal).
A2 Please provide a picture of the antenna and specifications for installation. Once received we will determine the best place to install the antenna.
Q3 Will the gas cannons be supplied by you or should they be sourced locally? If it will be your own, such I know from Ramstein and Spangdahlem, I would need to know that / there is no need in source them via our Italian partner.
A3 I do not understand the question. Do they mean we will fill the propane gas? Ideally, the contractor will fill the cannons during the installation.
Q4 In 3.0 there is mentioned "System must be capable of being relocated (handles/self-contained)" the mentioned pallets, can be lifted by 2-3 person. Would that check that point?
A4 We will need to see pictures. Wooden pallets deteriorate quickly and are not a sustainable platform to have cannons rest on top of or to relocate if needed.
