2.0 INTRODUCTION

The Naval Medical Research Unit Europe, Africa, Central (NAMRU EURAFCENT) maintains 12 Bio Fire Film Array systems that support DOW Global Emerging Infections Surveillance (GEIS) program and other DoW-funded infectious disease surveillance and research activities. These systems are strategically positioned in forward-deployed laboratories throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East to provide rapid molecular diagnostic capability in support of force health protection, infectious disease surveillance, outbreak response, and operational research.

The BioFire systems are an established component of the command’s laboratory capability and have been integrated into validated laboratory workflows, personnel training, and quality management processes. Continued Operation of these instruments requires BioFire manufactured assay kits that are specifically designed and validated for use on the BioFire Film Array Platform requires the procurement of Bio Fire Kits. This acquisition is critical to support Global Emerging Infectious Surveillance Research projects across Africa and the Middle East, using the existing Bio Fire devices in the forward deployed laboratories.
