About this file

This document is a Brand Name Specification that justifies the requirement for a specific Glenair backshell product for the OK410(V)4 Power Distribution Panel. The backshell is needed due to compatibility concerns with the existing panel configuration, and the Glenair product is the only one that meets the requirements. Requalifying a different backshell would incur unreasonable costs. Therefore, the government is soliciting this requirement from the Glenair brand product.

The related federal contract opportunity is Solicitation N6660425Q0103 issued by the Department of the Navy Naval Sea Systems Command for the Backshell requirement. No other alternative parts are specified, and it is in the best interest of the government to procure the Glenair backshell.

BRAND NAME SPECIFICATION

Items from a specific source are required for a number of reasons:

There are compatibility concerns with existing configuration of the OK410(V)4 Power Distribution Panel. The slimline backshell product from Glenair will fit, but the standard- size part number from the same manufacturer will not fit properly with the existing panel configuration. No alternative products that meet the requirements could be found by the engineering team.

The Glenair backshell is required as the replacement due the original 180-degree backshell being a Glenair 390 series as well. The 390 series was used to certify the system in all environmental testing. There are concerns that if a different backshell is selected, it will not perform in the same manner as the tested and qualified backshell series. Requalifying a new backshell to the same environmental requirements would incur unreasonable costs that would greatly exceed the cost of the Glenair product order.

RLAR-88819-DDG120-1208029 requires the use of Glenair Part Number 390AH053Z13228H. No other alternative parts are specified.

Therefore, it is in the best interest of the government to solicit this requirement from the Glenair brand product.
