STATEMENT OF WORK

1.0 Background

This Statement of Work (SOW) defines efforts and services for accomplishment of assigned tasks within the mission areas of the Undersea Weapons, Vehicles, and Defensive Systems Department, Code 85, at Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT). NUWCDIVNPT Code 85 is responsible for the development and maintainability of undersea defense systems. This procurement is for an array study comprised of a planar array of Stepped Tonpilz Acoustic Transducer (STAT) elements using a curved window and various fill fluids for an undersea defense system. The goal of this procurement is to ascertain an array design that can transition from Science and Technology to future fleet capability.

2.0 Scope of Work

The contractor shall conduct an acoustic analysis using a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) model to determine if a shaped window can be used with a planar array with the current textured ceramic STAT array design referred to as the STATZ3. The contractor shall determine if the acoustic performance meets requirements using a shaped window enabling a planar array to better integrate with a non-planar mounting surface.

3.0 Tasking

3.1 The contractor shall prepare and provide a kick-off meeting presentation, including a schedule for tasking identified in this SOW. The contractor shall host a kick-off meeting no later than thirty

(30) days after contract award to review the award and the task schedule to the Government.

CDRL A001 – Kick-Off Meeting Presentation

3.2 The contractor shall use a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) model to predict the acoustic performance of a STAT for the STATZ3 design to determine the maximum acoustic source level that can be achieved for the full-size array when using a planar array with a curved window. The contractor shall also investigate and identify different array window shapes, materials, and the thickness of the shapes, with the objective of minimizing the impact to received and transmitted beam patterns while also reducing turbulent flow over the window shape. In addition, the contractor shall investigate different fluids to be used in the array cavity area. The Contractor shall also determine the survivability of the window, for instance, can it withstand an impact to a pier. The contractor shall generate beampatterns over the operating band for a range of acoustic steering angles. The contractor shall make recommendations to the array configuration design to optimize maximum source level and beam pattern performance for the array.

3.3 The contractor shall provide an Interim Report summarizing status of the efforts – see CDRL A002.

CDRL A002 – Interim Report [DI-MISC-80805B]

3.4 The contractor shall provide a Final Report summarizing the overall efforts, process, methods, findings and design as executed under SOW tasking.

CDRL A003 – Final Report [DI-MISC-80805B] CDRL A004 – FEA Modeling Data – Technical Data Package [DI-SESS-80776A]

4.0 Program Management and Progress Reports

The contractor shall host, present gathered information and provide technical input at monthly Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs). The monthly TIMs will serve as the forum to present status towards the tasks in 3.0 through 3.4. At the Government’s discretion, these meetings may be required to be held at the Contractor’s facility instead of virtually.

For all assigned tasks, the contractor shall prepare a monthly Contractor’s Status Report (CSR) that indicates the progress of work, status of the program(s), and existing or potential problem areas.
