GENERAL INFO - AMENDMENT 0001

*** Due Date is not extended; proposals remain due 2:00 PM ET Tuesday 26 Apr 2022***

Questions and Answers (Q&A)

Question #1: Is there a designated laydown area? May Contractor store new materials, tools, and lifts in Room 119B/C? Is Government providing a space for dumpsters?

Answer #1: Construction Site Plan article in Specification Section 01 50 00 requires Contractor to submit for Government approval a site plan showing the locations and dimensions of temporary facilities (including layouts and details, equipment and material storage area, et cetera. We will discuss Contractor’s proposed laydown area at the preconstruction meeting consistent with the Preconstruction Meeting article in Section 01 30 00 and the Preconstruction Meeting subparagraph in Section 01 35 26. The general outside area and parking lot behind the building is a candidate for a laydown area, as are Rooms 119B and 119C.

Question #2: Is Contractor permitted to use Government restrooms?

Answer #2: Government restrooms will not be available for Contractor use. In accordance with the Sanitation paragraph in Specification Section 01 50 00, Contractor is required to provide and maintain within the construction area minimum field-type sanitary facilities in accordance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Manual EM 385-1-1 Section 02.

Question #3: Is Contractor required to remove expanded metal from all locations? Is Contractor required to remove all the expanded metal on the outside of the existing cage? Does the Navy want to save it for future use? If remaining in place, selected areas will have to be cut to accommodate plywood beans.

Answer #3: The expanded metal may remain. Contractor should address areas to be cut in its Deconstruction Plan, pursuant to Specification Section 02 41 00.

Question #4: If Contractor is removing the expanded metal, is the Contractor to provide a separate dumpster for recycling metal?

Answer #4: Miscellaneous Metal paragraph in Specification Section 02 41 00 requires Contractor to provide separate containers to collect scrap metal and transport to a scrap metal collection or recycling facility, in accordance with the [Contractor] Waste Management Plan, pursuant to Section 01 74 19.

Question #5: Will storage shelves be removed, relocated, and replaced by the Government?

Answer #5: Yes, the Government will remove the storage shelves prior to start of Work and the Government will replace the shelves after final acceptance of the Work or upon beneficial occupancy.

Question #6: The 2x4 by overhead door is damaged. Is that scheduled to be replaced?

Answer #6: Contractor shall replace the damaged 2x4.

Question #7: Drawings do not seem to indicate all areas/walls for sheetrock. Please confirm.

Answer #7: Your observation is correct. The drawings indicate the appropriate areas to be finished with sheetrock.

Question #8: Drawing Sheet 4 Detail for swing door / overhead door section doesn't match the wall thickness. In fact, all details on this page show 3-1/2” but the wall thickness should be 7”+.

Answer #8: See revised drawings in Section J provided with this Amendment 0001.

Question #9: Where is panel P1? (Electrical panel that feeds P000).

Answer #9: Panel P1 is located in the same bay of the building, approximately 100 feet northwest of panel P000.

Question #10: 2x8 sill plate not indicated as PT, but should be if in contact with concrete.

Answer #10: Contractor shall ensure the sill plate is preservative treated.

Question #11: Will Rooms 119A/B/C be emptied and turned over at same time to Contractor before commencement of Work?

Answer #11: Room 119A will remain in use with Government inventory. The Government and Contractor will coordinate clearing of pathways as needed. Government will clear Rooms 119B and 119C prior to start of Work.

Question #12: Is there a fork truck available to move the lifts of sheetrock and plywood? Or should one be rented?

Answer #12: Contractor shall provide its own or rented equipment, including forklifts, aerial lifts, etc.

Question #13: Are any of the new finishes required to be painted? E.g., Drawing #20-006A sheet 4 of 8, Door Schedule calls for factory pre-finish for doors and frames. Can Contractor provide a factory primed door and frame with field painting to be done after install so as to minimize damage to finish?

Answer #13: The new doors are scheduled to be painted. The plywood and gypsum walls are not scheduled to be painted. Contractor may provide a factory-primed door and frame and apply painting finish in the field.

Question #14: Is the north side of Room 119A going to have the expanded metal removed and receive the 3/4-inch fire rated plywood also?

Answer #14: No.

Question #15: On the top connection picture of the vertical beams, the right pic shows 4x3x1/4 angle and the left shows 3x3x3/16 angle?

Answer #15: This question seems to revolve about the meaning or intent of the weld symbol. The angles are 4”x3”x1/4” and they are attached to the existing steel with 3/16”x3” fillet welds.

Question #16: Is there only one sheetrock control joint in 119B/C?

Answer #16: Two control joints are required. One between the new gypsum and the existing gypsum and one halfway between that joint and the corner of the room.

Question #17: Plywood beam to sill plate nail size says 10D, it shows 1-1/2-inch length which is 4D nail size?

Answer #17: The 1-1/2” long nails should be labeled as 1-1/2” x 0.148”.

Question #18: Do all plywood ends need vertical blocking or only in between the built up vertical beams?

Answer #18: All plywood ends need blocking.

Question #19: What size is the ledger board? 2 x 4?

Answer #19: Yes, ledger board size is 2 x 4.
