C11 STATEMENT OF WORK (JAN 2012)
1.0 BACKGROUND
The USN Fleet employs Tomahawk All-Up-Rounds (AURs)-particularly the vertically launched, Composite Capsule
Launching System (CCLS) variant – as part of its weapon system.
In order to load a CCLS AUR onto a USN submarine, it is required that (2) lip seals, (P/N JCM-16664-001), be installed onto the capsule of each CCLS AUR. The lip seal is an integral part of the CCLS capsule. The integrity of the lip seal is important because it maintains a water tight seal at the flange area of the capsule, thereby preventing water from infiltrating into the missile tube and further into the missile itself. Missile tube flooding is detrimental to the employment CCLS AUR; therefore, proper manufacture of the lip seal is critical to the performance of the weapon system.
2.0 SCOPE
Code 4014 requests the manufacture of lip seals (P/N JCM-16664-
001) which will be distributed to TOMAHAWK Intermediate
Maintenance Activities to replenish spare parts inventories.
3.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS
Drawing JCM-16664 (Rev “C”) – Lip Seal.
Note 7 on our drawing package currently contains the following:
Elastomeric cord material may have one non-bonded splice. Gap between the elastomeric cord ends not to exceed (.12) inch under unstretched conditions when installed into the polyurethane shell.
The above will be deleted as we want to update our drawing and eliminate the elastomeric cord gap. The following will need to be adhered to:
ELASTOMERIC CORD MATERIAL SHALL NOT HAVE A GAP, AND SHALL HAVE
NO MORE THAN ONE BONDED SPLICE. PRIOR TO BONDING THE SPLICE, THE
GAP BETWEEN THE CORD ENDS WHEN INSTALLED IN AN UNSTRETCHED SEAL
SHALL NOT EXCEED .12 INCH.
Note 9 should read as follows:
The lip seals to be packaged in accordance with SAE AMS 2817
(per note of Dwg JCM-16664) with the following exceptions:
(a) The lip seals should not be coiled or looped;
