Attachment #1
Statement of Work
1.0 BACKGROUND
The VIRGINIA-Class (VA Class) Submarine (SSN 774) External Countermeasure
Launcher (ECL) requires a Breech Extension Guide (BEG) for loading the ECL modules aboard a VA-Class submarine; each SSN-774 contains seven launch tubes. The BEG was designed by Electric Boat Corporation (EBC); the four existing BEGs were constructed by a subcontractor to EBC. Two of the four BEGs are currently being used by the shipbuilders to satisfy construction testing requirements.
The Program Executive Office for Submarines (PEO-SUB) has tasked the Naval
Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWCDIVNPT), Platform & Payload
Integration Department (Code 40) to procure an additional BEG for a VA Class submarine.
2.0 SCOPE
The contractor shall manufacture and deliver one (1) BEG, for use during loading and handling operations of ECLs aboard VA Class submarines. PMS 450, the NAVSEA
Sponsor for the VA Class Program, has provided Shipbuilding and Conversion, Navy
(SCN) funds to Code 40 for this acquisition.
