About this file

This statement of work outlines requirements for an adaptive optics system to support research at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Corona Division Measurement Science and Engineering Department. The system must be capable of shaping high-powered light at 1070nm wavelength exceeding 1000W/cm^2, with minimum specifications including 952 actuators at 400/1.5micron pitch/stroke, 98% actuator yield, 99.9% fill factor, 952 channel drive electronics at 32kHz and 14-bit resolution, and ability to withstand 6.5kW/cm^2 deformities. Additional details specify government furnished property including a 140 actuator 3.5micron stroke system, coated test mirrors, and a 952 actuator high reflectivity coated system. Related federal contract opportunity N6426724R0002 seeks an adaptive optics system meeting outlined requirements to support high energy lasers research at the Naval Sea Systems Command and Naval Surface Warfare Center Corona Division.

Statement of Work HEL Adaptive Optics System

1. INTRODUCTION

The Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Corona Division, Measurement Science and Engineering Department, requires the acquisition of an adaptive optics system capable of shaping high-powered light at 1070 nm wavelength and irradiance values exceeding 1000 W/cm^2.

2. BACKGROUND

The DoD is rapidly developing directed energy technology to meet Fleet demand for alternatives to kinetic weapon systems. High energy lasers (HELs), in particular, are highly nuanced and capable of providing pinpoint accuracy on target, however, they are deleteriously effected by atmospheric effects and other aberrations to the wavefront, even at the laser source. Adaptive optics systems are capable of correcting for wavefront aberrations prior- or post-propagation in atmosphere.

3. SCOPE

Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Corona Division, Measurement Science and Engineering Department requires an adaptive optics system to facilitate basic and applied research into structured and conventional Gaussian light propagation, whereby the adaptive optics system will allow for corrective wavefront shaping amenable to theoretical and computational calculations. This will facilitate conversion from Gaussian or uniform beam shapes into structured forms, e.g., vortex beams at high powers. The system below can meet this requirement.
