About this file

This document is a DRAFT STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW) for an Adaptive Optics System for High Energy Lasers (HELs). The Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Corona Division, Measurement Science and Engineering Department, Code MS36 requires the acquisition of an adaptive optics system capable of shaping high-powered light at 1070 nm wavelength and irradiance values exceeding 1000 W/cm^2. The system must have a minimum of 952 actuators, 400/1.5 micron pitch/stroke, 98% actuator yield, 99.9% fill factor, and be able to correct for 6.5 kW/cm^2 deformities. The system should facilitate research into structured and conventional Gaussian light propagation and allow for corrective wavefront shaping. The period of performance is 150 days after contract award, and the place of performance is the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division. The government will provide the adaptive optics system as Government Furnished Equipment (GFE).

This SOW is associated with a Pre-Solicitation (N6426724R0002) for a High Energy Lasers (HELs) Adaptive Optics System. The government is seeking information from interested parties who consider themselves qualified to perform this requirement. Responses to this pre-solicitation are voluntary, and no feedback or evaluations will be provided. The requirement may be set aside for small businesses or procured through full and open competition.

STATEMENT OF WORK

HEL Adaptive Optics System

1. INTRODUCTION

2. BACKGROUND

3. SCOPE

4. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS

5. REQUIREMENTS

The Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Corona Division, Measurement Science and Engineering Department, Code MS36 requires the acquisition of an adaptive optics system capable of shaping high-powered light at 1070 nm wavelength and irradiance values exceeding 1000 W/cm^2.

The DoD is rapidly developing directed energy technology to meet Fleet demand for alternatives to kinetic weapon systems. High energy lasers (HELs), in particular, are highly nuanced and capable of providing pinpoint accuracy on target, however, they are deleteriously effected by atmospheric effects and other aberrations to the wavefront, even at the laser source. Adaptive optics systems are capable of correcting for wavefront aberrations prior- or post-propagation in atmosphere.

MS36 requires an adaptive optics system to facilitate basic and applied research into structured and conventional Gaussian light propagation, whereby the adaptive optics system will allow for corrective wavefront shaping amenable to theoretical and computational calculations. This will facilitate conversion from Gaussian or uniform beam shapes into structured forms, e.g., vortex beams at high powers. The system below can meet this requirement.
