REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL.

Department of the Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division, Contracts Department

Requirement Description The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division is hereby issuing a Request for Information (RFI) from all potential sources to provide information regarding a commercial, modified commercial, or non-commercial product/service solution(s) to the below specifications:

1. INTRODUCTION

This project consists of remodeling the former woodshop in building 575 to suit the installation of a metal additive manufacturing lab. This lab will utilize metal powders, some highly reactive and explosive, to create three-dimensional components using laser sintering. The space must therefore conform to NFPA 484 and UFC 3-600-01. This will require updating electrical, wall and ceiling construction and the addition of an electrical closet. The metal sintering process also requires the use of inert gas atmosphere so installation and plumbing of Nitrogen and argon lines will also be necessary. Finally, the new equipment will need to be connected and commissioned to begin use.

2. BACKGROUND

The Measurement Science department has purchased a Metal Additive Manufacturing Machine with its associated equipment. In order for this equipment to be used in a safe manner for both the users and those in the vicinity, a renovation of the room in which it is held must be completed. Since this machine operates by laser sintering metal powders, some of which are highly reactive or explosive, certain precautions must be taken and considerations made.

3. SCOPE

This project consists of the demolition, retrofit construction and commissioning of the Metal Additive Manufacturing Lab. Upon completion, this room will meet all Electrical, Fire, and Safety requirements to properly run this additive manufacturing process.
