SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

Forged 7075-T6 Aluminum Hemispheres

1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION. The contractor shall provide forged aluminum hemisphere shapes meeting the following salient characteristics.

2.0 QUANTITY. One (1) NRE- drawing. Twenty four (24) individual parts, with certification, testing, and samples as detailed below.

3.0 SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. Each of the aluminum hemispheres shall meet the following salient characteristics.

3.1 DIMENSIONS. The finished forged shape shall meet the minimum material condition per the latest revision of NAVOCEANO drawing EA-ME-1314-19. This includes a minimum of 0.13” of stock on all surfaces of the finished part(s) which will be made from the forging. Additional material and/or features beyond this minimum may be added if needed for forgeability.

3.1.1 Provide a solid model or drawing of the proposed forged shape for approval. Technical POC will give approval within 7 days.

3.2 MATERIAL. As specified on the drawing, parts are to be forged from 7075-T6 aluminum per ASTM B247-15. Material is to be cast and manufactured in the USA. The material shall have a minimum yield strength (0.2% offset) of at least 66 ksi, a minimum tensile strength of at least 77 ksi, and a minimum elongation of at least 7%.

3.3 TESTING. For each heat treatment lot of parts, provide a certification confirming material origin, chemical composition, standards conformance, and mechanical properties.

3.4 SERIAL NUMBERS. Mark each part with a paint pen or other method which uniquely identifies the part and the heat treatment lot to which it belongs.

4.0 DOCUMENTATION. The contractor shall provide quality control documentation that details at a minimum the stages in production the quality control checks performed and procedures and documentation used to verify proper workmanship. The quality control documentation shall be delivered to NAVOCEANO with the finished parts. The quality control form shall at a minimum meet SAE-AS9102 Revision A standards. Quality control documentation shall include, but not be limited to, Material Certifications, Dimensional Report, and final Quality Control Inspection Report. ISO 9000, ISO 9001, or a comparable certification by the contractor shall be provided.

5.0 INSPECTION. The Government Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) will perform inspection and acceptance of deliverables at Stennis Space Center within thirty (30) days after receipt.

6.0 SHIPPING/DELIVERY. Drawing is required no later than eight (8) weeks after receipt of purchase order. Aluminum Hemispheres are required no later than twenty-five (25) weeks after government approval, unless an earlier or later date is negotiated and agreed to at the time the purchase order is issued. Shipping shall be FOB destination. The contractor shall keep NAVOCEANO TPOC informed of any issues that would potentially impact the required delivery date.
