Performance Work Statement Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Design Technology Refresh/Upgrades/Technical Support
1.0 BACKGROUND
The Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (CNMOC) is responsible for the U.S. Navy oceanographic environmental data collection, processing, and data predict. The Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) is responsible for executing the mission(s) in support of the U. S. Navy and Joint Department of Defense (DOD) requirements worldwide. The Ocean Projects Department (OPD) (N9) is responsible for procuring, operating and maintaining Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) for environmental, geophysical, bathymetric, and oceanographic studies for the U.S. Navy. The vehicles must have a specific ocean depth capability between 0 and 6,000 meters.
NAVOCEANO currently operates a number of Remote Environmental Monitoring Units (REMUS), 6000, 2500, 600 and 100 AUVs, that were developed by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). The OPD has an ongoing need to fund additional efforts to improve survey capabilities of the AUV design to meet the Navy’s continuously changing program requirements.
