QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR CHAIN AND CRATE SOLICITATION

N62306-16-T-5000

1. One of my manufacturers needs clarification on the chain finish. I understand no finish, but do they need a rush inhibitor or shot blast to avoid rust?

Answer: No special treatment is needed on the chain.

2. Is the crate design according to NAVO drawings a must? Vendor has suggested an alternate design that has the overall same dimensions. Vendor stated that two custom crate companies questioned the stability of the NAVO custom crate design due to the attaching the side panels to the skids. The alternate drawing is attached.

Answer: NAVO’s crate drawing has been tested for several years and has been found to be reliable. At this time, maintaining the consistency of the NAVO crate is desired.

3. On the drawing for the crate, page 1 of 2, there is a dimension measured inside the lumber for the front view listed as “29 ½”. Using 2-3” wide pieces of lumber on the ends should make that dimension 28 ½” (Overall length of 34 ½” minus 6” equals 28 ½”) Am I interpreting this properly?

Answer: 3x4 lumber dimensions change to 2.5x3.5 so the inside dimension will be 29 ½”.

4. Also on page 2 of the crate drawing by “BOTTOM ASSEMBLY”: There is a description for the 3x4 as Type.2X. Is that grade of lumber also to be referenced for the 4x4 as well as the 1x4 lumber framing?

Answer: That is written Typ.2X meaning that the 3x4 lumber is in two places: on the outside.

5. Still on page 2 of the crate drawing by ‘BOTTOM ASSEMBLY”: There are 3x4 and 4x4 pieces. The 4x4 offers more strength than the 3x4. Is it possible to use all 4x4 construction on the bottom assembly? In other words, 3 pieces of 4x4 material, rather than 1 piece of 4x4 and 2 of 3x4.

Answer: There is a critical dimension that is only met by using 3x4 on the outside. The 4x4 is used in the middle for more strength than a 3x4.
