Statement of Requirements

Research Department

Naval Postgraduate School

1.0 Background/Introduction:

Faculty of the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) are expected to compete for external research funding, including the support of between 25% and 100% of their own salaries, depending on their type of appointment.

This business model is common throughout civilian research universities. It maintains faculty at the cutting edges of their disciplines and it allows NPS to attract a wide range of faculty expertise to support its diverse set of curricula.

While the NPS faculty model is efficient and effective, it also relies on constant refresh of external funding opportunities. The extent to which institutional investment and capabilities can support that discovery will contribute to faculty success and to the quality of NPS curricular activities. It is for this reason that NPS is seeking to engage with a state-of-the-art funding opportunity identification firm familiar with the range of disciplines contained at NPS.

2.0 Minimal Technical Requirements/Salient Characteristics:

This requested membership must provide NPS faculty members with access to an external funding opportunity notification system tailored to the suite of curricula represented at NPS.

The requested membership should also provide NPS faculty members with access to search resources built around government research funding opportunities.

The requested membership should also offer grant writing format (not content) assistance to NPS faculty members and it should offer executive grant management training sessions to senior NPS administrators, including the Academic Deans, the Dean of Research, and the Provost.
