Text version
(Revised July 2014) installed/performing. Describe the equipment/function you have now and how the new item/service must coordinate, connect or interface with the existing system.
A patent, copyright or proprietary data limits competition:
The items are “direct replacement” parts/components for existing equipment. Provide the information about the Next
Higher Assembly (NHA)/equipment which the replacement parts are going into (e.g. description, model, part number, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), etc.).
Other information to support sole source/brand name sole source procurement. The rationale must then justify
"either" substantial duplication of cost to the Government that is not recovered through competition or unacceptable delays in fulfilling the mission of the agency.
The current part installed is WLP001232-00. This will be a direct replacement of existing equipment and is in accordance with S9562-AC-MMA-010 technical manual. The rudderstock seal assembly is an outboard seal assembly designed to be mounted on the lower rudderstock bearing support casting. The seal assembly consists of a lower bearing grease seal assembly combined with a type ER hull seal assembly. The grease seal assembly contains two individual elastomer sealing elements (rings) arranged to retain grease in the lower rudderstock bearing. The type ER hull seal is a fully split, water lubricated, mechanical end face seal. The function of this seal is to prevent contamination of the grease or bearing, especially by seawater. Primary sealing occurs in a plane perpendicular to the rudderstock centerline and is accomplished by the continuous contact of a stationary seat against a rotating face insert.
Wartsila Defense, Inc. is the OEM.
The parts will be to replace the existing equipment in the rudderstock assembly which supports operation of the rudder. The OEM is Wartsila Defense, Inc.
The only distributor of this part is Wartsila Defense, Inc. Due to the nature of the repairs if we don't procure this in time the ship will not complete the docking in order to support mission requirements. This will be a cascading impact to other ships in the fleet.
