SPECIFICATION FOR
NUCLEAR GRADE HEPA FILTER IN HOUSING
The filter shall have nominal size and rating per Table FC-4110-1, ASME AG-1, Number 7: 24” x 24” x 11 1/2”, Minimum rated air flow of 1500 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm), and maximum resistance of 1.3” water gage (w.g.).
The filter medium shall be non-woven glass paper (boron silicate microfiber) 99.97% efficiency for 0.3 micron aerosol particles, tested per FC-4210, with maximum resistance of 1.3” w.g. per FC-4220. The filter medium shall be all glass with wet strength, water-repellent binder in accordance with ASME AG-1 Section FC, Mandatory Appendix FC-I.
Each filter element shall be constructed per Figure FC-4110-4 [Type C Separatorless Filter per FC-4130(c)].
Each filter element shall be constructed without the use of spacers of any kind, including separators, tape, string or strips of medium, by pleating a continuous sheet of formed, corrugated medium back and forth upon itself so that it is self-supporting.
The element shall be permanently bonded to a 14 gauge, Type 304 stainless steel (bolted) integral case (per FC-3110(a)) with a fire-retardant urethane sealant (per FC-3150). The dimensions of the case shall be 24” H x 24” W x 20” D. The perimeter of the filter face shall have two 12” diameter x 8” long metal-nipple connections to seal it to its mounting device in service. Construction of the filter shall be in accordance with the essential construction requirements of ASME AG-1 (latest revision). Both upstream and downstream faces shall have stainless steel faceguards installed per FC-3140 of ASME AG-1.
Each filter shall be tested for resistance to airflow and penetration in accordance with ASME AG-1 Section FC-5200 at the nominal rated capacity listed in table FC-4110-1 and at 20% of that capacity for penetration only. The penetration at both flows shall not exceed 0.03%.
The HEPA filters shall be comply with the performance requirements as listed in ASME AG-1 Section FC-5200.
Each filter and filter carton shall bear identical labels indicating the filter model number, the serial number, test air-flow direction and the resistance and penetration readings at test flow taken for the filter. In addition, the manufacturer shall provide a filter test report and a Certification of Compliance report.
Seismic qualification per section FC-4310, subsection AA-4350 is not required. Packaging per section FC- 7000 (extra shock absorbing material at the corners of filter) is not required.
The manufacturer shall, upon request, submit evidence that its filters, without nipple connections, have been qualified in accordance with ASME AG-1 or can reasonably be expected to do so.
Filters shall be packaged one filter per carton. Packaging shall be designed to protect filters from deleterious effects of shock, vibration, physical damage, water vapor, salt spray, condensation, and weather during shipping, handling, and storage.
