About this file

This is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document for federal contract opportunity N4215826QE067 concerning the manufacture of an LS/TR Disposal Box (item 6169ZN01).

The Q&A addresses five key clarifications regarding product specifications and manufacturing requirements. Transport of the boxes must be accomplished using forklift channels or slings, with separate lifting attachments not preferred. Metal surface preparation prior to applying rust inhibitive primer (the only coating required) involves removal of adhesives, coatings, and rust using hand tools or sandblasting, with no additional specific requirements mandated. Rubber pads must be adhesively bonded to the box using products such as Loctite 480 or equivalent, with sufficient strength to prevent detachment from slight pulling force; this applies to pads on both bottom and top covers (specifically PC 14 to PC 10, PC 7 to PC 6, and PC 18 to PC 11). The top gasket requirement is clarified as a quantity of four total gaskets rather than one, as multiple gaskets may be necessary to achieve adequate box closure sealing. No machined surfaces are required for any portion of the boxes, including gasket sealing surfaces, with only drilling and tapping operations specified.

6169ZN01 - LS/TR DISPOSAL BOX

Q&A

N4215826QE067

1. Specs say to ship the pad eyes separately. Would they allow attachment of separate lift eyes for loading to transport? If not, how do they usually receive and offload these boxes?

- Transport of the box is expected to be done using the forklift channel or the use of slings. It is not preferred to have separate lifting attachments.

2. The only coating required is a rust inhibitive primer on the inside. Do they have a requirement or spec for metal preparation prior to priming? Sand blast or anything else?

- Any adhesives, coatings, rust shall be removed from the surface prior to the application of rust inhibitive primer (this can be done with hand tools or by sandblasting). There are no other specific requirements that needs to be met.

3. Item (7) is four rubber pads on the bottom of the box. Do they have a requirement for adhesive of the pad to the box bottom? Same question applies to the pads on the top covers.

- Adhesives shall be used to apply PC 14 to PC 10, PC 7 to PC 6, and PC 18 to PC 11 with sufficient strength to prevent the padding from being detached with a slight pulling force. Loctite 480 or equivalent is recommended for use.

4. Item (9) Top gasket is noted as quantity of (4). It appears that the drawing only needs (1) gasket. Please confirm if it is 1 or 4.

- There are QTY 4 total gaskets required as closure of the box may require multiple gaskets for a sufficient seal.

5. Other than drilling and tapping, we don’t see any machined surfaces. Please confirm that no machined surfaces are required for the gasket to cover sealing surfaces.

- There are no machining surface requirements for any portion of the boxes.
