5.f. Manually actuate the 2 ea. solenoid assemblies several times and allow the assemblies to snap back. Measure the solenoid air gap. Grasp solenoid link to hold plunger in a free horizontal position and move toward solenoid frame until spring pressure is felt. Holding firmly in this position measure air gap between mating surface on solenoid frame and solenoid plunger. If solenoid air is correct, record measurements below.
5.f.1. If solenoid air is incorrect, depress the solenoid plunger mechanically and allow it to snap up. Move the wrap spring stop (pc 44) as required allowing the correct air gap. To increase the solenoid air gap, raise the stop slightly. To decrease the solenoid air gap, lower the stop slightly. After each adjustment, set and release the solenoid several times and recheck the air gap. Repeat this procedure sufficient time to set the air gap to 1-3/8 inches to 1-7/16 inches and insure proper operation. The gap is to be set the same for both coils to prevent uneven wear of the brake assembly.
Solenoid air gap measurement (inches) __________ Left coil __________Right coil
5.g. Install a dial indicator on the pressure plate and zero to the released position. Manually actuate both coils and verify that the pressure plate has a minimum of 0.060 inches of movement. Verify that when released, the pressure plate returns to the zeroed position. Repeat several times and record the average travel distance below to the nearest 0.001 inch.
