About this file

This document is a Question and Answer (Q&A) amendment related to the Chill Water System Rental solicitation N4215824Q0019. The Q&A addresses various equipment and installation requirements, including:

The chiller unit is not required to have specific connections, as long as it can connect to the 2.5-inch Male NPT connections on the supply and return manifolds. A tank with a sight glass is acceptable instead of a fully transparent tank. The government will provide all hoses, valves, and fittings between the manifolds and the ship, while the contractor is responsible for connections between their own equipment. The system will use only fresh water, not a glycol mixture. The government will provide the power cable and perform the electrical tie-in. The contractor is responsible for delivering the equipment, which the government will unload using forklifts. The contractor can perform all installation except the electrical work.

**The purpose of this amendment is to answer questions from vendors as follows** N4215824Q0019 Q&A Q: Equipment requirements 4.8 and 4.9: Do we have these connections on the chiller, or can we have these available to the system elsewhere in the system for them to tie in with the other pieces that are needed?

A: These connections are not required to be physically located on the chiller. The chiller unit can have whatever connections the contractor requires to connect to the rest of their own equipment. We only require the Male NPT Threaded connections on the discharge side of the Supply Manifold and Supply side of the return manifolds.

Q: Equipment Requirements 4.19: Would a tank be acceptable that has a clear level site on it, even though the entire tank is not transparent?

A: A tank with a sight glass would be satisfactory

Q: Is the expectation for us to provide anything past the 2.5" Male NPT connections on the system?

A: The expectation is that there will be no contractor provided equipment past the 2.5" MNPT Connections on the System. All hoses/valves/fittings etc. between those manifolds and the Ship will be provided by NNSY.

Q: Is there only water in the system, or will glycol be introduced to the system for winterization?

A: There will only be Fresh water in the system.

Q: What size/type fittings will you be tying into?

A: Connection size/types will be 2-1/2” MNPT on both the supply and return manifolds, as described in Paragraphs 4.8 and 4.9 of the SOW.

Q: How much power cable will you need? It comes in 50’ increments A: We will be providing the power cable; all we require from the contractor is a 500 mcm Camlock electrical connection as described in Paragraph 4.4 of the SOW.

Q: How much hose to connect each way will you need?

A: We will be providing all of the hoses between the Chiller Units Manifolds and the Ship. The contractor is to provide the hoses between any provided pumps/manifolds/chillers required to assemble the entire unit.

Q: Will you need a trailer or do you have means to unload?

A: NPTU Charleston has forklifts that will be able to unload the equipment.

Q: As far as installation goes, we can do everything but the electrical tie in since we aren’t licensed electricians.

A: NNSY Mechanics will be performing the electrical tie in.

Q: We standard us 4/o camlock cables, can I use this and include pigtails to tie into their power?

A: We require the male 500 mcm Camlock electrical connections so that it is compatible with the cables that we will be providing. If they can adapt to that connection type that is acceptable, but we will be the ones running the cable from the Chiller to the power source.

Q: My chillers have a 4” camlock fitting. If reading this correctly, I would need a 2-1/2” wye to a single 4” inlet to handle 2 return pipe. Will each return pipe need an independent globe valve or will one on the chiller suffice?

A: Each return pipe requires an individual globe valve. Each supply pipe requires an individual globe valve.

Q: Can we use city water for a top off with a regulator instead of a reservoir tank?

A: We require the reservoir tank. City water with a built in regulator will be used to top off the tank as necessary.
