About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers file for a Chrome Plating solicitation (N3904025Q4849) issued by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The Q&A addresses three technical specification clarifications: (1) specification updates regarding AMS-QQ-N-290, with AMS 2403 identified as the superseding specification, (2) confirmation of Rockwell hardness for the material being 20-32 HRC, and (3) a detailed response about nickel plating requirements. The document explicitly states that the nickel plating must adhere strictly to AMS 2403/QQ-N290 as specified in the drawing reference, with no deviations permitted, despite a vendor suggestion to use an alternative electroless nickel underplate.
