Used herein, “as needed” defines machine conditions that do not meet OEM specifications.

3.1.1 The Contractor shall perform the following work to a Cincinnati vertical turret lathe:

· Remove the machine and ship it to the contractor’s facility to perform the machine rebuild. Machine will have been electrically disconnected prior to Contractor arrival.

· Contractor shall completely disassemble, catalog and inspect the entire machine assembly. Parts that can be reused shall be cleaned, painted (as required for preservation) and reused. Parts that need replacement shall be ordered, or when necessary, reverse engineered, manufactured and installed.

· All drive racks, gears and shafts will be visually inspected for wear, material damage and other defects which could prevent the machine from performing as designed by the OEM.

· Cross rail and saddle ways will be evaluated at the inspection. The ways will be returned to the OEM specified flatness and straightness.

· All other ways, gibs, taper shoes and liners shall be ground, machined or hand scraped to return the machine to its original machine geometry. If a shoe or liner is damaged beyond repair, the Contractor shall replace it.

· The Contractor shall scrape all bearing surfaces to achieve a minimum of 80% contact.

· All way wipers shall be replaced.

· The lubrication system shall be completely rebuilt. All lines, gages, seals, filters, directional valves and other replaceable parts to be changed with new equal quality or better equipment. The main pump and any specialty OEM valves shall be rebuilt or replaced if necessary.

· All drive screws shall be removed, inspected and if found to be worn, replaced with like kind screws. The screws shall be installed and aligned for maximum life.

· All bushings, bearings, seals and worn couplings shall be replaced as required.

· The turret shall be disassembled and inspected. All bearings, bushings and locking pins shall be replaced as required. The turret will be reassembled and aligned with the machine axes.

· All rail elevating components including bearings, bushings and seals shall be replaced as required in the main drivetrain. Rail elevating screws shall be inspected. If found to have damage, replace with new Acme screws.

· The column ways shall be scraped to restore machine geometry and achieve a minimum of 80% contact.

· All clamps and locks shall be rebuilt or adjusted as needed. The clamps shall allow for free movement in an unclamped position, and provide holding force while in the clamped position.

· All bearings, seals, gaskets, and couplings shall be replaced as needed. The main table bearings shall be cleaned, inspected and reinstalled if found to be within OEM tolerance.

· The hydraulic system shall be completely rebuilt. All hoses, gages, seals, filters, directional valves and other replaceable parts shall be replaced by equal or better components.

· The main hydraulic pump and any specialty OEM control valves shall either be rebuilt or replaced if needed.

· All drive belts shall be replaced and re-tensioned. Pulleys shall be inspected and re-used unless damaged and not fit for use.

· Hand wheels, hand cranks, levers and handles shall be inspected for looseness with their shaft, worn keys, cracks, breaks, distortion, damage, missing parts and other defects. Components shall be repaired or replaced as necessary.

· All dials, scales, data plates and other tags shall be cleaned and restored to readable condition if possible.

· All guards and covers shall be cleaned, inspected and repaired as needed.

· All ram and counterweight components shall be inspected and repaired or replaced if necessary.

· The contractor shall provide new internal electrical components for the existing panel, including a main disconnect, fuses, terminal strips, motor starters, contactors, relays to meet current electrical standards of NFPA 70 and 79.

· The Contractor shall perform basic running tests to ensure test accuracies and surface finish capabilities through the manufacturing of a test part that meets the dimensional requirements of an engineering drawing provided by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (see attachment 1). Tooling design and geometry shall be of the manufacturer’s choice. The test shall include a variety of cuts to include straight turning, taper turning, shoulder and face cuts. Surface finish on all cuts shall be not greater than 32 RMS. The test piece shall be accurate to plan within +/- 0.0004” on each cut.

· The material used for these tests shall be supplied by the contractor and shall be SAE 1045 or equivalent.
