TVENT MACHINERY & EQUIPMENT BASIS

TVENT DESIGN CRITERIA:

[1] At our deployed sites (NLON or NBPL), a single Mid-ship (MID) or a pair Forward and Aft (FWD & AFT) of Temporary Desiccant Dehumidification (TDD) systems, dependent on the scope of the Overhaul Work Package (OWP), are required to support Blast and Paint (B&P) operations. For this availability, there will be a single TDD system.

[2] At our deployed sites (NLON or NBPL), two single (2 each) very powerful exhaust blowers (AHU [EXH]–N) are required to support both external Blast and Paint (B&P) operations (Hull / MBTs / Mud Tank) and for providing internal healthy environmental conditions (Dirty Air Exhaust) within the Ship's Forward and Aft Compartments. A single unit will be deployed near the Bow and the same for the Stern. Each exhaust blower has a pair of fourteen inch diameter suction inlets which wye to three each eight inch diameter suction lines (each Y: 14"Ø : 8"Ø × 3).

[3] At our deployed sites (NLON or NBPL), two each (2 ea) Normal capacity (–N) Temperature Conditioning Coils (TCCs) are required to provide 100% outside fresh treated air to the Ship's Compartments via the Forward Submarine Hatch Ventilation Enclosure (SHVE a.k.a. Hatch House) deployed on the WSH and the Aft SHVE deployed on the AEH. Each of the two designated Supply Hatch Houses must be supplied with two each twenty inch diameter (20"Ø × 2 ea) trunk lines.

[4] Emergency Stops (E-STOP [AHU]–#) will provide a certain measure of Fire Fighting security at the Watch Shack by permitting the instantaneous SHUTDOWN of air-handlers that either supplies air to (TCC [H+C]) or exhausts air from (AHU [EXH]–N) the Forward or Aft Submarine Compartments.

[5] At the NLON deployed site where the duration of the overhaul is short, the need for chilled water other than the ship's TCHW System is seasonally dependent. For this availability, a seasonal chiller is not required.

A LEASE SPECIFICATION — OVERVIEW OF MACHINERY & EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS (REMARKS as enumerated)

V1 CHILLED WATER SYSTEM: This item is a component of a Chilled Water System which includes all equipment to:

(a) produce chilled water (via a Chilled Water Unit that includes a built-in pump or a Chiller Module that excludes the pump); (b) pressurizes the chilled water (via a Chilled Water Unit that includes a built-in pump or a separate Pump Module); and (c) transports the chilled water (via hose assemblies). The PUMP (motor & impeller) shall be a matched set and preferably Low Speed (LS i.e. ~1750 rpm) in which case a single pump meeting the Pump Curve (Capacity in gpm versus Head Pressure in feet) and Motor Size (Power in horsepower) as listed in TABLE

V1 shall be sufficient. If a High Speed (HS i.e. ~3500 rpm) pump motor is proposed, then a second (redundant) pump in case of pump failure is required as a standby. The Chiller (CHLR) rental fee shall be for either the Chilled Water Unit or the Chiller Module. The Pump (PUMP) rental fee shall include any hose assemblies, meters, & adapters if identified in TABLE V1 as well as any independent Pump Module(s) for pressurizing the chilled water.

V2 COOLANT–FREE: Besides manifolds and hose assemblies that are normally flushed and tested, all machinery conveying chilled water such as: (a) the Chiller (CHLR: Chilled Water Unit or Chiller Module); (b) Pump (PUMP:

Pump Module); and / or (c) machines with a chilled water coil (TCC and/or CLGC: Temperature Conditioning Coil and/or Cooling Coil only); shall arrive with no coolant of any type in its piping (i.e. No Water & No Anti-Freeze).

V3 HYDROSTATIC TESTING: The quantity of hose assemblies listed in TABLE V1: MACHINERY REQUIREMENTS is for each machine/equipment (e.g. manifold) and, unless noted otherwise, is expected to be delivered on its scheduled date of Arrival. For standard Chilled Water Hose (CHWH) assemblies of six inch nominal diameter or less (≤6"Ø), the exterior cover shall be a thick rubber (Buna-N) type material designed as a CHW insulator in which the nominal length is twenty-five feet (25') with one male and one female non-galvanized camlock type end connectors.

Except for flanged Cargo Discharge Hose (FLG-CDH) or cam-locked Suction Hose(CAM-SH), the cam-locked Chilled Water Hose (CAM-CHWH) assemblies (≤6"Ø) can either be non-collapsible or collapsible (i.e. capable of being rolled) and the camlocks shall be attached to the hose material via the more secure, newer type, crimp style hose fitting via a single specified diameter, elongated sleeve length and not from the less secure, older type, band clamp style hose fitting via multiple universal diameter, shorter ferrules. Hose assemblies and manifolds shall have a banded individual Identification (ID) tag or label attached prior to and for reporting the results of the Hydrostatic Tests. The operating pressures for the various chilled water systems can be up to 100 psig. Within one calendar year of its scheduled Arrival Date (exemption will be allowed if less than two years from its scheduled Departure Date and so informed), hose-manifold-valve assemblies shall be hydrostatically tested with new hose gaskets for Strength and Tightness (S&T) and/or Valve Seat Leakage by an independent (of the Contractor) and certified Vendor to a minimum of 200 psig (125 psig for 6"Ø hose w/ camlocks) for five minutes (5') and visually inspected and/or internal valve leakage measured while pressurized. Clarification vis-à-vis Valve Seat Leakage is available from the Technical Liaison. The Hydrostatic Test Certificates issued by the testing Vendor shall be kept on file by the Contractor for the duration that the test could apply with the ability to provide an immediate copy of any particular certificate when requested by the Technical Code (e.g. formal Critique or Investigation). However, the Contractor shall extract the hydrostatic test data from the certificates, tabulate the results, and send a digitized version as exemplified below to the Technical Liaison (E-mail: Richard.Grossman@Navy.mil).

V4 COUPLING / DUCTING: The final process air outlet(s) on a ventilation system shall terminate in either a nominal twenty inch diameter (20"Ø) opening or include transition type coupling(s) (18"Ø : 20"Ø) (e.g. all outlets for TCC [H+C]–L/2N & HTGC [STM]–L or post-unit only for TDD Systems i.e. heating coil for cold WX or cooling coil for mild-warm-hot WX). This will allow for the connection of nominal twenty inch diameter flexible ducting as furnished by either the Vendor (e.g. ABC ENVIRODUCT 1899HD: 20"Ø × 25'L) and/or the Government (KEVLAR: 20"Ø × 50'L).

Other transitions, wyes, couplings, and elbows for the intervening process air machines can either be eighteen or twenty inches in diameter (18"Ø or 20"Ø) if it is compatible with the twelve to fifteen foot long ducting jumper(s) (e.g. ABC ENVIRODUCT 1899HD: 20"Ø × 12' – 15'L) as provided by the Contractor for interconnecting the Vendor's pre/post- unit(s) to its primary ventilation machine. The Contractor must provide any interconnecting ducting jumpers plus two elbows per jumper. Any ducting to be connected to a suction inlet of a machine (e.g. pre-cooling coil) must be suitably rigid so as to withstand the machine's negative (suction) pressure.

V5 FAN (BLOWER) CRITERIA: Temperature heating only (HTGC–N) or cooling only (CLGC–N) coils acting as a pre-unit or post-unit to a machine already incorporating a built-in air-handler (e.g. dehumidifier) do not require their own (i.e. internal) blower (fan). Rather, the fan, if included, is considered to be an optional [optl] component to the machine. However, temperature coils that are independent or connected to other machinery that lack a built-in air-handler for the process air as identified in TABLE V1 to STAND-ALONE will either incorporate its own (i.e.

internal) fan or a separate (i.e. external) fan shall be provided. If an air-handler is not required but a built-in (i.e.

internal) blower is included [optl] or it is annotated to be required [reqt], then the fan attributes of TABLE V1 applies.

A LEASE SPECIFICATION — OVERVIEW OF MACHINERY & EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS [NOTES as ITEMized]

A & B CRITICAL TEMPORARY CHILLED WATER (TCHW) SYSTEM: Machinery that connects directly to the ship's Chilled Water System (CHW [SHIP]), such as the Non-Seasonal sixty ton Chiller and Pump (CHLR [ 3"]–N & PUMP [ 3"]–N), are critical components that, if there is a component failure, will most likely result in a CRITIQUE INVESTIGATION compelling the full cooperation of the Contractor followed by a formal CRITIQUE REPORT.

For instance, a previous chiller's built-in operational controls automatically shut-down the compressors upon receiving a supposedly low flow signal to prevent serious damage to mechanical components. However, the demand signal used to interpret flow was the differential pressure between the chilled water SUPPLY and its RETURN (∆P[CHWS–CHWR]) vice a signal based on the chiller's actual flowrate. Often, the installed TCHW System has a much reduced differential pressure between the chiller's Supply and Return legs because of either the Master bypass line as a permanent design feature of the TCHW Manifold between the Supply & Return barrels or the independent bypass lines for each of the individual TCHW Sub-System utilities. The purpose of these several bypass lines is to allow for either a continuous flow path for the pump and/or to protect the chilled water lines from freezing during the Freeze Prevention (FP) season (1 Oct – 30 Apr). In spite of both a significant cooling load from the ship and the pump's full flowrate passing thru the chiller's barrel, the chiller sequenced a compressor shut-down because of a reduced differential pressure signal being interpreted as a low flow condition resulting in a rapid and serious loss of cooling water.

Thus, the Contractor shall be responsible to verify that any operational control mechanism that automatically performs compressor shut-down because of a low flow condition is based on the actual rate of flow thru the chiller and not on any type of differential pressure.

A HOT GAS BYPASS (HGB): Hot Gas Bypass (HGB) on a chiller allows the machine to operate in spite of cold ambient temperatures (i.e. near or below freezing). This feature is required for the non-seasonal chiller (i.e. CHLR [ 3" ]–N) which is directly connected to the ship's Temporary Chilled Water system (TCHW [SHIP]) at PNS and NLON if scheduled to operate during the cold weather season (1 Oct – 30 Apr). The larger seasonal type chillers (e.g. CHLR [ 4" / 6" / 8" ]– L / X / G) connected to the drydock's Temporary Chilled Water system (TCHW [DOCK]) do not require HGB. If annotated that HGB is required, the chiller shall be able to operate at ambient temperatures as low as zero degrees Fahrenheit (0°F). For reliability in operating under low load conditions, all chillers shall have multiple compressors and/or refrigerant circuits as annotated.

B ADAPTERS (PUMP [ 3" ]–N): To support the ship's Temporary Chilled Water system (TCHW [SHIP]), the pump (PUMP [3"]–N) shall include a pair of removable camlock type adapters pre-attached to the transition fittings on its suction and discharge ends. The adapters will allow for the eventual connection of the Contractor's 3" M & F camlock hose assemblies from the Contractor's chiller & pump to a Government furnished manifold. The plan is to detach the adapters from the transition fittings on the Contractor's pump, and to reattach them onto a Shipyard TCHW [SHIP] system combined supply & return external Chilled Water Manifold (MANF [EXT–2½"]–N).

Thus, connected to the pump's discharge 3" M camlock transition fitting shall be Adapter : 3" F : 2½" M and connected to the pump's suction 3" F camlock transition fitting shall be Adapter : 3" M : 2½" F and the LFM.

B LIFTING & HANDLING EXCEPTION: Although considered to be machinery, individual pump units, being relatively lightweight and compact, are not required to be enclosed in a caged frame. However, the remaining Lifting and Handling requirements pertain in that the unit will be handled by forklift and most likely be lifted by crane.

C DEHUMIDIFIER: Moisture removal rates are provided for three different data points on the Psychometric Chart dependent on the particular Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM) tested or published criterion. The Vendor has to demonstrate satisfaction to one of the psychometric index points as follows or provide its basis:

{a} { seventy-five degree Fahrenheit at fifty percent Relative Humidity (75°F @ 50% RH) }; or

(b) ( eighty degree Fahrenheit at sixty percent Relative Humidity (80°F @ 60% RH) ); or [c] [ 90 degree Fahrenheit at 120 grains of moisture per pound Absolute Humidity (90ºF @ 120 gr/lb AH) ]; or ├d┤ ├ Winter: 58°F @ 99% RH & Summer: 84°F @ 62% RH ┤only for DHs w/ built-in heating & cooling coils.

Moisture Removal Rate: pound per hour (lb / hr) = 2.88 gallons per day (gal / day) gal / day = 0.347 lb / hr;

based on water density at 60°F of 1 gallon = 8.337 pounds.

C & F FILTRATION: Excluding pre-cooling and post-cooling and/or post-heating machines connected to dehumidifiers (CLGC–N & HTGC–N), air-handling machinery that either requires or has inlet filtration shall feature permanent (metal vice fiber) filters for the Process Air Inlet(s) (PAIs) so as to withstand exposure from wet ambient conditions (e.g. DDUs & TCC–L/N). Inlet fibrous (paper) filters deteriorate exceedingly soon after the first rain storm and such machinery referred to above should be delivered without the inlet fibrous filtration.

Furthermore, except for Dry climates (Köppen Group D arid & semi-arid) such as at NBPL, air-handling machinery that conveys fresh outside, albeit treated air directly to the submarine's pressurized compartments (i.e. TCC–L/N) should (and must for the future) feature Moisture Separator / Demister type filters (suggested source: www.AirFilterUSA.com / 713.896-8901) for purging 98% of the moisture on saturated days.

N39040-15-T-0014

C'&D' DEHUMIDIFICATION SYSTEM: The direct Process Air (PA) machinery elements for a dehumidification system are the Desiccant Dehumidification Unit a.k.a. dehumidifier (DDU–N) with its associated either coupled pre-cooling with post-cooling coils (CLGC–N) and/or a post-heating coil (HTGC–N). Each of the one or two at deployed sites (NLON / NBPL) or three at home station (PNSY) dehumidification systems must finally terminate with a single or no more than dual twenty inch diameter outlet(s) (20"Ø × ≤2). The Shipyard will route the single or dual Process Air outlet run(s) to its point-of-use. Post-cooling alone adds greatly to the Relative Humidity (RH in %) of the Process Air and thus, directly upon the RH of the volume space to be treated, albeit no true effect in that the Dry Bulb temperature (DBT in °F) remains unchanged. Because the Shipyard uses Relative Humidity as its criterion and not the differential between the skin temperature of the metal surface and the Dry Bulb temperature of the volume space, post-cooling of the dehumidified air will most likely be coupled with pre-cooling of the ambient air prior to its entry into the dehumidifier. Also, because the submarine's exterior metal skin temperature is quite cold towards the beginning of the warming season, pre-cooling of the ambient air prior to dehumidification is essential because the air-treatment process, as magnified when in parallel with dehumidification, also removes a significant amount of moisture, thus, increasing the correctly critical temperature differential between the Dry Bulb temperature of the air and the skin temperature of the exterior metal surface. Because of insufficient availability of footprint space in or near the drydock and to keep all Vendors on an equal footing for bids, there is no intent to lease nor install (even at no extra cost) more than a single pre-cooling coil coupled with its associated single post-cooling coil and/or a single post-heating coil. Hence, the Contractor is responsible to consider and/or match the design of the outlet(s) of the pre-cooling coil to the Process Air (PA) inlet(s) of the dehumidifier. Also, if pre-conditioned air is called for via the lease of a pre-cooling coil, then 100% of the ambient air must be pre-treated prior to entering any of the dehumidifier's inlet(s). If a pre-cooling coil has two outlets and the dehumidifier has two inlets, then there is no issue. But, if a pre-cooling coil has only one outlet and the dehumidifier has two inlets, then a wye is necessary. A worse case is a dehumidifier with as many as three inlets and three outlets that must be matched with a single pre-cooling coil and a single post-cooling coils in which each of the coils has only one inlet and one outlet. In this case, a sheet metal box must be attached to the PA inlet side of the dehumidifier terminating in just a single 18"Ø or 20"Ø inlet, as applicable, as well as a smooth trapezoidal transition piece to be attached to the PA outlet side of the dehumidifier also terminating in just a single 18"Ø or 20"Ø outlet or some other alternative arrangement must be provided. Post-heating, albeit somewhat simpler, would have similar concerns. Discussions with the Technical Liaison may prove necessary and should begin as soon as the Bidder (prior to Award) or the Contractor (after Award) recognizes that a unique or difficult connectivity condition exists. Machinery footprint and protrusions are always a consideration.

C/D/F FEATURES: The dehumidifier (DDU) and the heating coils (HTGC) at our deployed sites (NBPL or NLON) shall only be electric whereas at PNSY there is a requirement [reqt] or optional [optl] for either electric or steam utility (per TABLE V1). The pre-cooling and post-cooling coils (CLGC-N) shall have a set of chilled water coil(s) for cooling and not a refrigerant coil (i.e. air-conditioning unit) unless specified to the contrary. The combined heating & cooling Temperature Conditioning Coil (TCC [H+C]–L/N) shall have both a set of chilled water coil(s) for cooling and at NBPL or NLON only electric coil(s) for heating whereas at PNSY there is a choice of either electric or steam for heating. The steam-driven Heating Coil (HTGC [STM]–L) designed specifically for submarine enclosures at the Shipyard shall utilize only steam for heat. Controls for these types of machinery shall be thermostatic as well as feature manual as back-up. The Temperature Conditioning Coil (TCC–L/N) and/or Air-Conditioning Unit (ACU) shall have at least the quantity and size of round Process Air Inlets / Outlets (PAIs / PAOs) as identified in TABLE V1 and shall include tightly fitting covers for each circular type of inlet / outlet. Dampers alone are insufficient as Process Air Outlets. If the Process Air Inlets (PAIs) have dampers, doors, or covers and hence, some or all must be in an OPEN position for the unit to function properly, the machine shall be so stenciled to indicate such. In which case, the unit shall have a trip-proof mechanical device to secure or stow the Process Air Inlet (PAI) damper, door, or cover to the OPEN or SHUT position.

E/F/L E-STOP [AHU]: The E–STOP equipment / installation as a system Outfit (OT) requires: [1] advance preparation of designated air-handling machinery to adapt to the hard-wired connection of the E-STOP cables; [2] furnishing the quantity of E-STOP Switches-Controllers-Stations-Routings to each individual air-handler as designated (quantity per TABLE V1: PERFORMANCE CAPACITY column) and potentially, up to the linear quantity of cable with associated connectors as also listed in the same column of TABLE V1: TVENT MACHINERY & EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS;

[3] system installation of the entire set of equipment to include the multiple routings of such to the Watch (Guard) Shack positioned at NLON (ARDM#4): port Mid-Ship (on top of the floating drydock near the Personnel Brow); and [4] training Temporary Services Shop 99 [Pipe] & [Electric] on troubleshooting / rerouting as well as Ship's Force personnel on its operation. The E-STOP switch-controller-station shall instantly STOP the designated air-handling unit(s) when depressed. Except for air-handlers with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), the E-STOP switch-controller-station shall allow RESTART of the air-handler when operationally RESET.

N39040-15-T-0014

A & B CHILLED WATER (CHW) PIPING FREEZE PREVENTION (FP) PROGRAM (PNSY & NLON): For the cold weather geographic regions (PNSY & NLON), the non-seasonal sixty ton Chiller (CHLR [3"]–N) and its accompanying Pump (PUMP [3"]–N) are machine types that has the potential for its chilled water coils or other piping components to freeze sometime during the Freeze Prevention (FP) season (Oct 1 – Apr 30), thus, causing considerable damage to the unit. The Shipyard perceives such damage to these particular unit types as shared in its cognizance and prevention by either the Vendor or the Shipyard for reasons as described below.

There are only two ways by which such a unit may have water or moisture inside – either: (1) the unit was delivered to the Shipyard by the Vendor with undrained water and/or residual moisture within its chilled water piping or (2) water was introduced by the Shipyard when operational anytime during its lease period. As for the former means of water entrapment, the Contractor must deliver its machine completely bone dry (entirely drained of all water and then thoroughly purged of moisture via compressed air) which is especially critical if the machine's delivery is just prior to or during the FP season; and this preparation must be reflected in the Vendor's Machinery Quality Checklist (MQC). As for the latter introduction of water by the Shipyard, the potential for serious damage can occur should the non-seasonal Chiller and Pump be deactivated anytime during the Freeze Prevention (FP) season (Oct 1 – Apr 30). The Project is therefore responsible to coordinate with the Vendor to ensure that as much water as practical is drained from the subject unit immediately after its disconnection from the non-seasonal (ship's) Temporary Chilled Water (TCHW [SHIP]) system (performed by the Vendor or Project). For the Freeze Prevention (FP) season, the Contractor is immediately responsible for either picking up the unit for its return no later than the very next calendar day after its disconnection or thoroughly purging the unit of all residual moisture via compressed air (performed by Vendor personnel only).

The Vendor would have access to the drydock's Low Pressure Air (LPA: a.k.a. Yard Air @ ≈100 psig) system as necessary to perform such a purge.

F CHILLED WATER (CHW) COILS FREEZE PREVENTION (FP) PROGRAM (PNSY & NLON): For the cold weather geographic regions (PNSY & NLON), the combined electric Heating and/or chilled water Cooling [H+C] Temperature Conditioning Coil (TCC [H+C]–L/N) is a machine type that has the potential for its chilled water coils to freeze sometime during the Freeze Prevention (FP) season (Oct 1 – Apr 30), thus, causing considerable damage to the unit. The Shipyard perceives such damage to this particular unit type as entirely under the cognizance and prevention of the Vendor for reasons as described below. There are only two ways by which such a unit may have water or moisture inside – either: (1) the unit was delivered to the Shipyard by the Vendor with undrained water and/or residual moisture within its chilled water piping or (2) water was introduced by the Shipyard when operational only during the artificial cooling season (i.e. warm weather). As for the latter introduction of water by the Shipyard and would only be during the non-Freeze Prevention (non-FP) season (May 1 – Sep 30), the Vendor is fully aware of the Shipyard's intent to introduce chilled water into the machine's coils for providing cool air because of its lease of other seasonal chilled water machinery / equipment. When transitioning from the cooling to heating season (i.e. warm to cold weather), the Shipyard disconnects and returns the seasonal chilled water machinery and equipment prior to 1 November. The Contractor is therefore responsible to coordinate with the Project to ensure that as much water as practical is drained from the subject unit immediately after its disconnection from the auxiliary (seasonal) Temporary Chilled Water (TCHW [AUX]) system (performed by the Vendor or Project).

Regardless of the Freeze Prevention (FP) season, the Contractor is responsible prior to the 1st of November for thoroughly purging the unit of all residual moisture via compressed air (performed by Vendor personnel only). The Vendor would have access to the drydock's Low Pressure Air (LPA: a.k.a. Yard Air @ ≈100 psig) system as necessary to perform such a purge.

C & F STEAM REACTIVATION (PNSY): The Desiccant Dehumidification Units (DDUs) at PNS normally use steam vice electricity for the reactivation heat. The Reactivation Heating Coil (RHC) can be either a single Normal capacity unit (–N) or dual (paired) medium capacity units (–2M). After deployment of a TDD System, the Contractor is responsible for providing and attaching rigid duct connector(s) between the Process Air Outlet(s) (PAO) on the Reactivation Heating Coil and the Reactivation Air Inlets (RAIs) on the dehumidifier as well as control cable(s) between the RHC(s) and its dehumidifier. The duct connector(s) must be capable of withstanding the expected high temperatures and negative suction pressure. Control cables shall be at least twenty feet long (≥20').

D/F/H STEAM FITTINGS (PNSY): If a size and type is annotated in the TRANSITION column of TABLE V1: MACHINERY REQUIREMENTS, it is a piping detail if steam is a requirement [reqt] by the Government or optional [optl] by the Vendor. The Shipyard steam utility is rated at 100 psig (338°F). Either the machinery steam coil shall be rated for 100 psig and so labeled or steam pressure regulator(s) shall be provided for each steam piping inlet for reducing its pressure.

H & M EXTRA MANIFOLDS W/ HOSE ASSEMBLIES (PNSY): The delivery of extra manifolds with their hose assemblies associated with a pair of Normal capacity Temperature Conditioning Coils (TCC [H+C]–2N) for Alternative IIIB vice a single Large capacity Temperature Conditioning Coil (TCC [H+C]–L) in Alternative IIIA shall be postponed until the warm-hot weather temperature cooling season (usually April) when all other seasonal chilled water machinery-manifolds-hose assemblies are delivered as scheduled and not before chancing their misplacement.

N39040-15-T-0014

I FLEXIBLE GIGANTIC DUCTING [+FLEX]–G: This flexible ducting to be provided as a separate Contractual Item by the Vendor is for conveying downstream the final Processed Air from the Vendor provided Desiccant Dehumidification Systems and Temperature Conditioning Coils. The non-collapsible (i.e. wire-reinforced), light-duty, flame-resistant, flexible ducting (DUCT [+FLEX]–G) shall be a standard twenty-five feet long (25'L) and nominally twenty inches on the Inside Diameter (20"Ø ID) so as to fit over twenty inch Outside Diameter (20"Ø OD) fittings (i.e. DUCT–G: 20"Ø ID × 25'L). The external reinforcement shall be a hard-drawn steel wire-helix with an expanded pitch of approximately seven inches (7") such that the ducting is capable of both very high positive ("blowing") as well as some negative ("exhausting") static pressure applications (e.g.

between dehumidification system machinery). The nature of the light-duty but heavier fabric ducting shall be a PVC / Polyester Substrate of a sewn construction having a weight of about eighteen ounces per square yard (~18 oz/yd2), thus, offering excellent UV stabilization, and featuring mold and mildew inhibitors for rigorous and continuous outdoor exposure to hot (ambient up to +110°F) as well as freezing (ambient down to –20°F) weather. The nature of the flame-resistance shall be a rating of UL94VTM-0 (burning stops within 10 seconds on a vertical specimen; drips of particles allowed as long as they are not inflamed) for conveying tempered air into a manned environment (temperature up to +180°F). The ducting does not require insulation since the ducting runs are about a hundred feet for a transit time of less than two seconds (as calculated below).

t = d × A / Q = 1× 102 ft × 2.18 ft2 [≡ π × 102 ÷ 122] × 6 × 10 sec / min ÷ 8 × 103 ft3 / min = 1.64 sec The ducting color shall be either WHITE (acceptable) or GREEN (preferred). A HEAVY-DUTY EXTRUDED wear-strip over the wire-helix is not required, but, preferred. The ducting end finish shall be such that it can be fitted over a rigid duct collar or coupling and then attached via gigantic size hose clamp such as a WIRE ROPE COUPLING or SOFT CUFF end finish. An equivalent ducting meeting the aforementioned technical requirement is the 1899-HD Non-Insulated EnviroDuct® as manufactured by ABC Industries, Inc. ([www.ABC-Industries.net] 800.426-0921):

SPECIFICATION: [http://www.abc-industries.net/industrial-ventilation-ducting/air-fume/enviroduct-1899-hd/], 20"Ø flexible ducting;

DATA SHEET: [http://www.abc-industries.net/images/uploads/documents/EnviroDuct_1399-SD_1899-HD_product_bulletin.pdf]

J SEMI-RIGID EXTRA LARGE DUCTING [–FLEX]–X: This semi-rigid ducting to be provided as a separate Contractual Item by the Vendor is for conveying upstream a very high suction pressure airstream between the air-handling portion of the Vendor provided Exhaust Blowers and its distribution wyes. The non-collapsible (i.e. semi-rigid construction), heavy-duty, flame-resistant, non-metallic ducting (DUCT [−FLEX]–X) shall be a non-standard twenty-four feet long (24'L) and nominally fourteen inches on the Inside Diameter (14"Ø ID) so as to fit over fourteen inch Outside Diameter (14"Ø OD) fittings (i.e. DUCT–X: 14"Ø ID × 24'L). The external reinforcement shall be in the form of a helix as either a steel wire within or of 100% PVC matériel such that the ducting is capable of both some positive ("blowing") pressure up to five pounds per square inch (≥5 psig) and, especially for between the Exhaust Blower's air-handler and its suction wyes, some negative ("exhausting") static pressure up to one inch of mercury (≥1"Hg). The nature of the heavy-duty ducting shall be an all PVC extruded construction with an approximate wall thickness of 0.045 inches so that the twenty-four foot length (24'L) of ducting does not exceed seventy pounds (≤70 lb) which is the safe carrying capacity for dual workers, thus, the finished ducting construction shall not exceed 2.92 pounds per linear foot (≤70 lb / 24 ft ≤ 2.92 lb/ft).

The ducting matériel and its construction shall be such that the final product is no-collapse / no-crush, offers excellent internal and external abrasion resistance for the conduction of welding fumes, and good chemical & moisture resistance. The ducting shall withstand rigorous and continuous outdoor exposure to hot (ambient up to +110°F) as well as freezing (ambient down to +20°F) weather. The nature of the flame-resistance shall be a rating of UL94VTM-0 (burning stops within 10 seconds on a vertical specimen; drips of particles allowed as long as they are not inflamed) for the further DOWN-stream and thus, somewhat cooler conveyance of welding or paint fumes (temperature up to +160°F). Because each application and type of ducting is identified by color, the color shall be All BLUE to include both the exterior cover as well as its helix. The ducting end finish shall be such that it can be fitted over a rigid duct collar or coupling and then attached via an Extra Large (–X) size either Bridge hose clamp (i.e. for ducting that terminates in a helix w/ no finish as usually manufactured) or Straight hose clamp (i.e. for ducting that terminates in a smooth soft cuff which historically was not an option).

For attaching the Ducting to its metal fittings, the Vendor shall provide two each applicable clamps for each ducting hose length as indicated in the PERFORMANCE CAPACITY column of TABLE V1: TVENT MACHINERY & EQUIPMENT

REQUIREMENTS. The clamps shall be stainless steel except the screw can be carbon steel. Because this ducting has a Clockwise (CW) spiral, Bridge Clamps must also be Clockwise (CW × 14"Ø). An equivalent ducting meeting the aforementioned technical requirements is the Flexadux® PV R-3 Blue (listed as UL 94V-0 flame retardant) manufactured by Flexaust ([www.Flexaust.com] Chris Sharpe: 888.465-0445 desk or 603.234-7767 cell):
