Statement of Objectives (500)
1. PURPOSE: the purpose of this contract is to secure for the command chemotherapy ordering software
2. SCOPE: This software will be used by hematology/oncology and GYN/Oncology physicians for ordering chemotherapy for patients with malignant disease, and other diseases requiring special infusions
3. PERIOD AND PLACE OF PERFORMANCE: To ensure optimal functionality, the software must be available in all provider examination rooms, as well as in the infusion center, and the hematology/oncology pharmacy. The period of the contract will be a one year base with 1 year of option.
4. BACKGROUND: The safe administration of chemotherapy requires many steps; one mistake in the process could potentially result in a fatal overdose of chemotherapy, or conversely, under dosing which could result in a less-than-optimal treatment outcome. Computerized order entry for chemotherapy has been shown to reduce errors, ensuring optimal, safe patient care. DuBeshter et al. prospectively studied chemotherapy order sets using a chemotherapy ordering software program (lntellidose), assessing "errors related to drug selection, dose calculations, decimal-point errors, and for exceeding a warning level set within the system." They also measured the time required to produce three order sets by hand versus by computer.
"There were no errors in dose calculations, decimal points, or drug selection for 2,558 drug administrations in 235 patients treated with 26 different chemotherapy regimens. The dose warning level was exceeded in 152 (6%) of drug administrations, but never without user permission to override the warning. The average time saved per order set using computer order entry was 10 minutes (P < .OS)." (Journal of Oncology Practice, March 2006).
Hematology/Oncology and GYN/Oncology has been using this system (lntellidose), since February, 2004. During this time, we are not aware of any errors of this type in thousands of orders. We wish to continue the practice of safe and efficient chemotherapy ordering.
5. PERFORMACE OBJECTIVES, GOALS AND OUTCOMES: The selected chemotherapy software system must be in the DADMS system. The software must have literature support demonstrating that it reduces these types of errors ("errors related to drug selection, dose calculations, decimal-point errors, and for exceeding a warning level set within the system") , and enhances efficiency of chemotherapy ordering. The software should be compatible with our current database of patients and chemotherapy regimens. It must be readily available on examination room desktop computers for ease of use. Finally, the product must be ready to use at the end of our current contract in October image1.png
