QUESTIONS & ANSWERS (1-8)

Question 1: Please provide NAVSEA Drawing 5992800. This is the vibration test fixture reference in the Battery Insert Test Procedure, Document 7608507.

Answer 1: Drawing provided in Amendment 4.

Question 2: Please provide NAVSEA Drawing 5992750_A, Battery Package Assembly. This is also referred to in The Battery Insert Test Procedure Document 7608507.

Answer 2: Drawing provided in amendment 4.

Question 3: In Figure 4B of Battery Dry, Drawing 5992780, reference is made to top and bottom insulation, which we believe is “cardboard”. Please clarify.

Answer 3: Drawing 7609150 5.6 references the material used as insulation. Sections 3.4.4 and 6.1.1 reference the requirements for the insulation as 0.030” thick. The requirement is that the insulation material selected will allow the package to meet all dimensional tolerance requirement.

Question 4: Again in Figure 4B, is the insulation used on the pack sides also cardboard? This is not clear from the drawing package.

Answer 4: Sections 3.4.4 and 6.1.1 reference the requirements for the insulation as 0.030” thick. The requirement is that the insulation material selected will allow the package to meet all dimensional tolerance requirement.

Question 5: Also in Figure 4B, the shrink wrap is mentioned and it also states that there should be overlap. How much overlap is required?

Answer 5: The amount of overlap has been left to contractor discretion as long as the battery passes all requirements (dimensions, insulation, weight, etc).

Question 6: Also in Figure 4B, please provide more clarity on the “Battery Common Strap”.

Answer 6: The Battery Common Strap is the same material as the weldment tabs. Reference step 6.1.1 in drawing 5992780 suggests the use of nickel tabs.

Question 7: In Drawing 5992780 Para 3.5.4, the requirement is for the battery to survive and “operate” during the vibration environment. Does this mean we have to draw a load on the battery and monitor the voltage during the vibration? If so, how much of a load?

Answer 7: Yes, a load draw is required during vibration testing. The testing requirement in drawing 5992780 Para 3.5.4 is intended to demonstrate the mechanical and electrical integrity of the battery during operation.

The voltage and current be measured across a 100 ohm, 20W fixed load for each of the three strings.

Question 8: Will the vibration test fixture referenced in NAVSEA drawing 5992800 be provided as Government Furnished Equipment?

Answer 8: No Government Furnished Equipment is currently called out in the solicitation, however, the vibration test fixture referenced in NAVSEA drawing 5992800 can be provided as Government Furnished Equipment after award, if necessary.
