About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file discussing technical specifications for custom filters. The primary focus is on dimensional requirements and design consistency for filter types (LPF, BPF1, BPF2). The document clarifies that while minor manufacturing variations within engineering tolerances are acceptable, the overall maximum dimensions [5x1.25x1.25] cannot change. The filters must maintain consistent size within each filter type to ensure compatibility with enclosures and prevent potential rework.
The document indicates that each filter design, when manufactured, must have identical dimensions, and any proposed longer lengths would not be acceptable. The respondent seeks additional clarification about potential size variations, including the timeframe for changes and factors influencing dimensional modifications. They emphasize that since these are custom filters, significant design variations are unlikely, and most custom work quotes include non-recurring engineering (NRE) fees with the expectation of a reproducible design.

Q&A:
Can the size vary a bit , and also are these one time need or if they had future :
• I attached the requirements we gave to contracts, the overall dimension maximum dimension cannot slide.
The design should be consistent as size between filters types, as it may need to fit inside an enclosure, and it could cause rework if dimensions are unable to stay consistent.
(I.e. LPF doesn’t need to be the same size as BPF1 or BPF2, but all three LPF/BPF1/BPF2 should be the same size as each other)
If we’re talking about within engineering tolerances, i.e. one filter is +-0.1 in longer than the other due to connector manufacturing and still meets the size requirement, this would be
OK.
If this doesn’t answer their question, for me to give them a better answer I’d need to know:
• How much could the design vary in size
• Over what timeframe
• What is influencing the change(s) in dimension. Because these are custom filters, other than the connectors I’m not sure what would be changing in dimension.
Unless they are planning to deliver filters with different topology among the batch / saying that this topology will be unavailable in this future. Most the quotes I’ve seen are charging and NRE fee for this type of custom work. If the design is non re-producible I don’t think it work.
Each design when built will have the same dimensions.
For example , on the first filter, in order to make it work well we need it to be longer than the length specified .
So we want to know if a longer, but consistent , length is acceptable ?
• The longer length would not be acceptable.
The overall dimension maximum dimension cannot slide. [5x1.25x1.25]” (excluding connectors)
