Test Unit
Statement of Work
Scope
The provider will supply a test unit as seen in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Test Unit Concept Drawing (top view)
The assembled test unit will be 50 ft long, 13 ft 4 inches wide, and 10 ft 6 inches and high. The test unit will be constructed from thirteen (13) concrete sections. There are five (5) unique concrete sections that make up the test unit. The weights of each of the test sections are shown in the drawing. Concrete compressive strength should be a minimum of 3,500psi.
Each of the sections contains a 6 inch lap joint used to connect the sections together.
The provider will install a preplaced neoprene gasket at the lap joints. The gasket should be 2.5 inches wide and a standard thickness, and will be included around the entire perimeter of the concrete section where it meets the adjoining section (e.g. each concrete section will require one (1) gasket and one end).
Sections B, D, and E are concrete box culvert. These sections contain 8 inch haunches on the inner corners of the culvert. The walls and ceilings of test sections B, D, and E are 20 inches thick. The floors are 10 inches thick.
Section A is a full end cap at both ends.
Sections B and C contain cutouts for doorways. Section B contains 2 cutouts and Section
C contains one cutout inside the test unit. The cutouts will be 90.75 inches high by 47.75 inches wide.
The concrete sections should contain a double mat of #5 rebar @ 10" O.C. ‐ E.W. ‐ E.F. (On‐ Center Each‐Way Each‐Face). Rebar “bends” will be used in the corners of the culverts.
Each of the concrete sections will contain appropriate lifting inserts at the top of the concrete section.
Each of the concrete sections will contain a 4 inch schedule 40 PVC pipe in each of the corners. When assembled, the test unit will have four (4) straight pipes that extend the length of the structure (50 ft). These pipes will be used to tie the structure together using 2 inch threaded rod.
The provider will be required to provide a “submittal drawing set” that will need to be approved by NSWC IHEODTD prior to making the units. The provider should assume that simple revisions to the submittal drawing set will need to be made (cost appropriately for back and forth discussion).
Two (2) concrete samples (for compressive cylinder tests) will be provided to NSWC IHEODTD for each of the thirteen (13) concrete sections (26 total cylinders).
NSWC IHEODTD will be invited to witness the pouring of the concrete sections. The provider will be located in northern Virginia within 50 miles of Fort AP Hill (Bowling Green, VA).
The provider will deliver all items to Fort AP Hill located in Bowling Green, Virginia.
In addition, the provider will supply associated hardware including:
One (1) set of clutches to match the lifting inserts used in the sections of the test unit.
216 pieces of 2 inch diameter threaded rod in 6ft lengths. The material should be grade B7.
36 each – coupling nuts for 2 inch diameter threaded rod.
The provider should include nuts, standard washers for 2” threaded rod, and mild steel plate washers (8 each – 8”x8”x3/8”)
At least 2 standard size concrete samples for each day of pouring – these will be used for concrete compression testing.
