About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for federal contract opportunity N0017326RFIKN01 dated May 27, 2026.

The document addresses seven questions regarding systems and workstations procurement for the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). The systems are exclusively for laboratory usage at NRL and will require onsite installation and integration services. NRL will provide the rack as part of the procurement, and internal NRL personnel will handle network connectivity to NRL's comprehensive network environment. Regarding component specifications, the Government has clarified that listed components are mandatory for compatibility, integration with existing systems, and ongoing support from NRL personnel. Specifically, the Supermicro Computer brand name components referenced in the specifications are required, and equivalent or alternative components will not be acceptable. The Government will remove a conflicting note from the revised Specifications document that previously stated "Any reference to specific manufacturers is for example only and equivalent components are acceptable." This clarification emphasizes that only the specified brand name items meet the Government's compatibility and support requirements.

Question 1: Are the systems and workstations highlighted in the subject sources sought solely for lab usage, or is the intent of the Government to source, test, and evaluate these systems for potential deployment on shipboard or other land-based applications?

Answer 1: These systems are solely for lab usage at NRL

Question 2: Is onsite Installation required?

Answer 2: yes, onsite installation/integration services are required

Question 4: How does the network topography look?

Answer 4: NRL runs a comprehensive network environment interconnecting all of it's systems. The connection of this system to that environment will be handled internally to NRL.

Question 5: Will you accept alternative components that meet or exceed the salient characteristics?

Answer 5: listed components are required for compatibility, integration with existing systems and ongoing support from NRL personnel

Question 6: While reviewing the technical specifications, we noticed that the listed parts reference OEM: Supermicro Computer. Could you please advise whether this is a Brand

Name Only requirement, or if equivalent alternate solutions are acceptable?

Answer 6: Listed components are required for compatibility, integration with existing systems and ongoing support from NRL personnel

Question 7: I just noticed the following note in the Specifications document:

“NOTE: Any reference to specific manufacturers is for example only and equivalent components are acceptable.”

Given this explicit statement, we would like to confirm whether equivalent components that fully meet or exceed the salient characteristics, performance requirements, compatibility, integration, and ongoing support needs would be acceptable.

Answer 7: The statement above will be removed in the revised Specifications.

Equivalent components will not be acceptable and that only the specified brand name items are required.
