About this file

This document is a technical specifications sheet for a mid-wave infrared (MWIR) spatial light modulator (SLM) system required by the Naval Research Laboratory. The SLM must operate across the 3-5 micron spectral range with 0-2π phase modulation capability and include a 1024 x 1024 active pixel array with pixel pitch less than 18 microns and fill factor exceeding 97%. The device must achieve at least 256 resolvable phase levels, phase stroke response time under 100 milliseconds, and switching frequency greater than 10 Hz, with phase stroke calibration performed at 3.9-4.1 microns. The system must include electrical input and output triggers for TTL signal integration, comprehensive software for image loading and generation, a calibration look-up table for full spectral range operation, and software development kits with LabVIEW and MATLAB drivers.

The procurement is being conducted as a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items on a firm-fixed-price basis by the Department of the Navy's Office of Naval Research. The contractor must deliver the instrument to Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, including installation, demonstration, and training. Complete commercial documentation, user manuals, software, and associated manuals must accompany delivery. The contractor must provide warranty terms at least equivalent to those offered to the general public, with the warranty period commencing upon acceptance. The NAICS code is 334516 and the Federal Supply Code is 6640. This is a full and open competitive procurement with brand name or equal specifications permitted.

Midwave infrared spatial light modulator

The Naval Research Laboratory has a requirement for a spatial light modulator (SLM) that operates in the mid-wave infrared (MWIR) spectral range of 3-6 micron wavelengths and is capable of 0 – 2*pi phase modulation.
The system must consist of the following components and shall meet or exceed the following minimum specifications.

Mid-wave infrare spatial light modulation system specifications (MWIR SLM) S1. The MWIR SLM shall be capable of achieving a 0-2pi phase stroke over the spectral range of 3-5 microns.

S2. The MWIR SLM shall be able to control the phase over a 1024 x 1024 active pixel elements with a pixel pitch less than 18 microns and fill factor greater than 97%.

S3. The MWIR SLM shall be phase stroke calibrated at a minimum of one wavelength near the center of the operating spectral band (calibration between 3.9-4.1 microns).

S4. The MWIR SLM shall have at least 256 resolvable phase levels over the phase stroke of 0 – 2pi.

S5. The MWIR SLM shall have a 10-90% phase stroke response time less than 100 ms at the calibration wavelength S6. The MWIR SLM shall have a switching frequency greater than 10 Hz at the calibration wavelength.

S7. The MWIR SLM shall include an electrical output trigger that indicates when a new phase image is set.

S8. The MWIR SLM shall include an electrical input trigger that upon a rising or falling edge TTL signal will trigger the SLM to change the phase image S9. The MWIR SLM shall include all required software to load, generate, and set phase images.

S10. The MWIR SLM control software shall include a look up table calibration for setting the phase stroke over the full spectral range of the MWIR SLM.

S11. The MWIR shall include a software development kit that includes Labview and Matlab drivers.

Installation and Training The price of mid-wave infrared spatial light modulator must include delivery of the instrument to the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC; installation; demonstration; and training.

Documentation and Warranty

a. A full set of all written documentation customarily provided to the public with a commercial item shall be provided. This shall include user manual(s) or equivalent as well as copies of any software, and any manuals for the software included with the system, if customarily provided. This documentation should be received by NRL with the system hardware unless other arrangements are agreed to by the authorized Government representative. In addition to the above documentation, which is customarily provided.

b. The contractor shall offer the Government at least the same warranty terms, including offers of extended warranties, offered to the general public in customary commercial practice. These warranty terms must be included in the system price. The period of the warranty shall begin upon acceptance.
