About this file

This Sources Sought Notification details requirements for a Robotic Asset Characterization System for the Naval Research Laboratory. The system requires seven robotic configurations with specific technical specifications, including two heavy payload robot arms (longer and compact reach), seven sets of grippers, seven mobile carts with positioning capabilities, safety scanner systems, and cart position reference kits. Key technical requirements include robot arms with 1.0-2.0 meter reach, 20-40kg payload capacity, Zimmer or equivalent pneumatic grippers, and integrated safety scanners.

Additional system components include a Programmable Logic Controller equivalent to Siemens S7-1500 family, miscellaneous hardware and spare parts, and basic training documentation. The vendor must provide custom system design with mobile yet stable configurations, supporting electronics mounted in cart enclosures, and the ability to operate arms collaboratively. The contract includes 12-24 month warranties and phone support for the first year of use. This is a pre-solicitation notice seeking potential contractors capable of meeting the Navy's robotic system specifications, with responses to be submitted via email to the contract specialist.

Robotic Asset Characterization System SSN No.: N0017325SSNML01 Sources Sought Notification

Attachment 01 - Specifications

Component requirement Description

Heavy Payload robot arm longer reach Reach 1.5 to 2.0 meters, Payload 20-30kg, weight 55kg to 75kg

Heavy Payload compact Robot arm Reach 1.0 to 1.75 meters, Payload 30-40kg, weight 55kg to 75kg

Grippers Generic Duty Zimmer grippers or like gripper pneumatic - high precision, compact light weight capable of dual arm collaboration Grippers for collaborative Gripping

Seven sets of grippers will be included as well as any support electronics and equipment as needed. Grippers will be tailored to the use cases provided in Att 2 - Use Cases. Grippers capacity will be equivalent to top load characteristics of the associated arm.

Carts Carts must allow for movement between rooms and standard door clearances. Each cart must have the capacity to then be set up in a fashion in which the arm is stable within its range of motion and expected payload maximums. Each cart must have a system onboard that allows for precise and repeatable positioning and repositioning. Carts should have all supporting electrical and arm and gripper support equipment mounted to the cart. The minimum acceptable delivery will be for seven

(7) carts, two (2) of which with horizontal slides, and one

(1) with vertical lift.

Safety Scanner Systems Industry standard safety scanners integrated into each arm.

Cart Position Reference Kits Each cart will have a high accuracy measurement kit like the flexxbotics reference kit V2 1. ±0.1-0.5mm from the TCP, locking time 1-2 minutes, arm compatibility (we should not be the first to pair kit to arm) - should also include supporting software Software should:

1. Set reference point, free drive arm into lockout assembly (6-degree mechanical mating system)

2. Capture coordinates

3. This software then updates robot software with motion program

4. Software should also allow for recapture of its settings when moved or change work set up.

Vertical Lift kit 7th axis .5 to 2 meter stroke, 1.3-2.0 kN load, opt temp +15-35 deg C

Horizontal Lift Kit 7th axis 2 - 4 meter stroke, 9-12 Kn load, speed 200 mm/sec and up, 100% duty cycle

Attachment 01 - Specifications

Misc. Hardware Spare parts for arms and grippers, hardware needed to assemble systems. This is to include any needed equipment to drive grippers, power supplies, sensors and switches, machine mounted embedded electronics, mounting hardware and spare parts for arms and grippers

Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Programable Logic Controller with enclosure -equivalent to Siemens PLC System in the S7-1500 family of PLCs this is to include any needed equipment to drive grippers, power supplies, sensors and switches, machine mounted embedded electronics, mounting hardware and spare parts for arms and grippers

Basic Training Basic use and maintenance procedure - Training manuals and support documentation required.

Custom Design - Application specific Non-Recurring Expenses

Vendor will provide system design for each Robotic Characterization System (RCS). RCS will be mounted and installed on cart with all supporting equipment.

• Systems must be mobile yet stable when in operation. Grippers will be suitable for defined use cases.

• Reach of robot arms can be increased with slides or lifts. Electronics and subsystems must be mounted in on cart enclosures.

• All arms must come with integrated safety scanners.

• All vendors must be able to provide suitable support for NRL to operate and program the arms individually in collaborative functions as specified in use cases.

• Additionally, phone support for the first year of use will be provided.

Warranty Warranties: 12-24 months from date of delivery

Shipping Shipping for arms/carts and hardware
