About this file

This Request for Quote (RFQ) N0017325Q0004 details the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory's requirement for 150 sets of specialized avionics blind mate connectors. The connectors must meet specific technical specifications, including compatibility with high-speed data, power, signal, RF, and fiber optics, and ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions. Key requirements include supporting 8-26 AWG conductors, operating in temperature ranges from -65°C to +125°C, withstanding 500 mating/unmating cycles, and having mechanical dimensions no greater than 2.25" tall, 7.5" in length, and 1.75" deep.

The solicitation identifies specific Radial manufacturer part numbers (NSXN2F449X01, NSXN2B449X01, NSXN2F964X01, and NSXN2B964X01) that meet the requirements. Delivery is required within 20 weeks after receipt of order to the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. The connectors will be used in vehicle communication equipment installations, with a focus on a slim profile, self-alignment, minimal signal loss, and compliance with MIL-STD-1344 standards for environmental resistance. No additional training, documentation, or unique security requirements are specified.

RFQ: N0017325Q0004 ARINC mating pairs Specifications / Salient Characteristics

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS/ SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

Description of Requirement

The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has a requirement for 150 sets (4 connector housing, pins, sockets, etc. per set) of very specific avionics blind mate connectors.

These modular rack and panel connectors are to serve as mechanical, electrical, and environmental interfaces between line-replaceable units (LRUs) and the host environment. Each set must include two pairs of blind-mate connectors to be used in a custom designed electronics enclosure, which has been designed to incorporate the specific connectors identified in this purchase request.

These connectors must be sealed from environmental intrusion, rugged and be able to withstand a minimum of 500 mating and de-mating cycles and support power, RF, signal, and fiber optic cables in a custom layout to support the needs of the project. The connectors must also meet the mechanical form factor of no greater than 2.25” tall, 7.5” in length and 1.75” deep

The connectors must feature a rectangular molded insulator enclosed in a composite or metal shell, with contacts arranged in application-specific configurations that support high-speed data, power, signal, and fiber optics. The shell will be secured to a communications enclosure with screws. Connectors must be front release/removable and have low insertion loss.

These connectors will be utilized in the installation of communication equipment in vehicles. Delivery of these connectors is required within 20 weeks of contract award to align with the sponsoring agency’s schedule.

Primary Capabilities/ Salient Characteristics/Technical Specifications:

Following is a list of the salient characteristics of an avionics blind-mate connector:

• Compatible to terminate high-speed data, power, signal, RF and fiber optics

• Meet requirements for harsh environments, dust, vibration, shock and water submersion

• Must also meet the mechanical form factor of no greater than 2.25” tall, 7.5” in length and 1.75” deep

• Configurable interfaces based on the needs of the application requirements

• Durable for a minimum of 500 mating and un-mating cycles

• Support 8-26 AWG conductors, LMR-195 coaxial RF cable and Multi-Mode Fiber Optic cable

• Survivable at temperature ranges - 65°C/+125°C

• Nominal impedance: 50Ω.

• Must have high packing density in a slim profile to meet tight standards of limited space within the communication system enclosure

• Connection does not require direct line of sight positioning

• Self-aligning for proper mating

• Minimal signal loss

ARINC series 600 connectors have the following specs:

• Temperature range: - 65°C/+125°C

• Blind-mate connecting

• Mechanical dimensions are 1.8” tall, 7” long and 1.6” deep

• Insulators compatible with signal, power, high speed data and fiber optics

• Compliant with MIL-STD-1344 (harsh environments, dust, vibration, shock and water submersion) o Salt spray: MIL-STD-1344 method 1001.1 test condition B (48 hours).

o Moisture resistance: MIL-STD-1344 method 1002.1 test condition II (10 times 24 hours).

o Fluid resistance: resistance to MIL-STD-1344 method 1016 (fluids a, e, i).

o Random vibration: conforming to MIL-STD-1344 method 2005.1 test condition 5 letter E.

(16,4g from50 to 2000 Hz, 8 hours per direction).

o Shock: 50g 11 ms half sine.MIL-STD-1344 method 2004.1 3 impacts per direction.

o Multiple pin configuration into a single cavity (1 pin, 2 pin, 4 pin (quadrax) or 8 pin (ochito))

• Durability: 500 mating and unmating cycles.

• Support 8-26 AWG conductors, LMR-195 coaxial RF cable and Multi-Mode Fiber Optic cable

• Nominal impedance: 50Ω.

• Insertion loss: 0.3 dB per contact

• Front release/front removable

The Following part numbers from Manufacturer Radial have been deemed to meet these requirements P/N:NSXN2F449X01, P/N:NSXN2B449X01, P/N:NSXN2F964X01 and P/N:NSXN2B964X01
