STATEMENT OF WORK-
UPGRADE TO NRL CODE 8124 ANTENNA APEX ASSEMBLIES
1.0 INTRODUCTION / BACKGROUND
The NRL Code 8124 hosts a variety of prime focus parabolic dish antennas ranging from 3m to 30m in several geographic locations. An integral electromechanical system of each of these antennas is the apex assembly which functions to not only mechanically support interchangeable antenna feeds, but allows precision focusing of these feeds as well as mechanical and electrical support for passive and active RF components that are changeable based on operational requirements.
This Statement of Work outlines an upgrade to five different NRL Code 8124 antenna apex assemblies. Specifically, the upgrade will improve the mounting, 3-axis adjustment, and calibration of a variety of antenna feeds, as well as the control, power, and mounting requirements of the RF system hardware that is electromechanically supported by each apex assembly.
2.0 SCOPE OF WORK / OBJECTIVE
This Statement of Work outlines the requirements of the apex assembly upgrade.
3.0 DELIVERABLES / SCHEDULE
The contractor must improve the function of the existing apex assemblies on antennas originally fielded as prime focus as well as antennas that have been converted from Cassegrain to prime focus. Improvements include hardware and control software upgrade to five different apex assemblies, located both at the NRL Pomonkey Facility and at an OCONUS Facility. These improvements must not only accommodate existing Facility feeds, the focal adjustment thereof, and germane RF support hardware and control software, but future feeds and their required supporting hardware and software. The future feeds and support hardware will be defined by NRL Code 8124 as data is collected during the period of performance. Revision to the hardware and control software may be requested depending on mission dynamics during the period of performance.
Prior to award, the contractor will confirm their experience with the Vertex 30m parabolic dish apex assembly at the Pomonkey Facility, the NRL 18m parabolic dish apex assembly, and the NRL 9m parabolic dish apex assembly. They will also confirm their experience with the existing custom feed and RF system control hardware and software used by NRL Code 8124 at both its CONUS and OCONUS locations. Upon approval, the contractor will perform the upgrade as directed by NRL Code 8124 so as to minimize impact on the mission of NRL Code 8124. The contractor will be responsible for the design, documentation, implementation, integration, and testing of the hardware and software components of the apex assembly upgrade. The deliverable will be the implementation of electromechanical hardware and control software which improve the mounting, 3-axis adjustment, and calibration of a variety of antenna feeds, as well as the control, power, and mounting requirements of the RF system hardware that is electromechanically supported by the apex assembly.
The period of performance is three months: 1 December 2016 – 28 February 2017.
4.0 SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
The upgrade must utilize each of the existing five apex assembly’s electromechanical hardware and control software form, fit, and function.
The vendor must be experienced with the Vertex 30m parabolic dish apex assembly, NRL 18m parabolic dish apex assembly, and NRL 9m parabolic dish apex assembly.
The vendor must be experienced with the existing feed and RF system control hardware and software used by NRL Code 8124 at both its CONUS and OCONUS locations.
