About this file

This is a Standard Form 30 Amendment of Solicitation/Modification of Contract for a naval contract (Solicitation Number N0016725Q1206) issued by NSWC Carderock Division. The amendment extends the response due date from 22 September 2025 to 25 September 2025, specifically to 10:00 AM EDT, and includes responses to industry questions about a wedge casting project.

The document addresses technical details including mold materials, metal melting volume, and testing requirements. Key points include: the government does not require additional test blocks or chemistry testing, vendors can choose mold materials (3D printed Furan, conventional air set, Chromite, graphite), and they will pour a single wedge. New attachments were added to the solicitation, including CDRL A001 Data Summary for CWTA, Commercial Engineering Design Data, MODUK Defence Standards, and NAVSEA 4340-2 documentation. The amendment allows vendors to clarify project specifics and provides additional reference materials for the solicitation.

QUESTIONS FROM INDUSTRY

Do you have a drawing showing dimensions of the wedge casting?

All documents are provided in the solicitation posting on SAM.gov

Are there chemistry standards available?

MODUK DEFSTAN 02-824 is located in the solicitation posting on SAM.gov

Since the amount of metal that we would have to melt may approach 500-lbs, would you like to incorporate additional wedges, weld blocks, etc.?

The Government does not require additional test blocks integral to the casting. If the vendor includes them (e.g. an integral test block, or a keel block for mechanicals) as a part of internal foundry QA/QC, I do not object to their inclusion so long as the quote reflects their inclusion.

You could also test for elemental fade or segregation across a series of molds.

The Government does not require additional testing for chemistry.

We could vary the mold materials such as 3D printed Furan, conventional air set, Chromite, graphite, etc.

We are intending to pour only a single wedge so the vendor may choose mold materials as they see fit so long as they report back the mold-package design as specified in the CDRL.
