About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document related to a solicitation for a 10-foot side beam welding system for the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD).
The Q&A clarifies several technical specifications: the requirement is for a side beam rather than a manipulator, with both welding heads mounted to the carriage rather than being interchangeable. The system requires standard Lincoln Electric wire reel mounts (part K1504-1), four 35-foot lug-to-lug power cables, and a flux trough that runs underneath the table. The system must provide 6 feet of precision travel along the side beam with controlled constant speed for 1G welds on a weld table. The design must include parking space for the carriage at one end for loading/unloading workpieces and handling filler metal and flux.

1. Would it be possible to get a sketch of expected machine?
1. Please confirm whether the required machine is a side beam and not a manipulator, as the requirement terms refer the latter. Side beam would be preferred.
1. Do the heads need to be interchangeable or both mounted to the carriage? Both mounted
1. Would it be possible to get a sketch of expected machine? See answer to question 1.
1. Is it standard Lincoln wire reel mount? Standard reel mount Lincoln Electric part number K1504-1.
1. What is the weld power cable length required. It is mentioned as (QTY: 4). Please clarify unit QTY 4 35ft lug to lug power cables.
1. Need more information on capacity flux trough location and expected use. Would run underneath the table to catch post used flux. The capacity would be at least however much could fit in the flux hopper.
1. “Effective 6 ft. of precision side beam with machined rack that offers smooth and accurate travel speed.” Did this mean to be lift like a manipulator and not a side beam? This means we have a controlled constant travel along 6ft of side beam.
1. Please provide a clarification on sufficient length to allow parking of carriage at one end for loading and unloading of work pieces. On top of the 6 ft of precision travel a location that allows for filler metal and flux handling at the carriage.
1. Please provide a clarification on the usage scenario of fixed height vertical stanchions and flexible cable track . We are doing 1G welds on a weld table where the need for large differences in height are not needed. The flexible cable track is to allow for smooth unencumbered travel to allow for the effective 6ft of precise, smooth, and accurate travel speed.
1. The SAW head weighs <200lbs. Therefore clarification regarding minimum load capacity of 750lbs at 12 in. is required. We can reduce this maximum to 300lbs at 12in. since we only have a 60lb spool holder and the flux capacity is less than 500lbs.
1. Is manual swivel movement for GMAW torch holder acceptable? Yes.
1. Please provide the location of wire reel to boom end mount. Is the boom referring to a manipulator? Wire reel would be mounted on the carriage to allow for in line wire feed.
1. Below is a screenshot of a side beam Below is a screen shot of a manipulator without any weld equipment. Please confirm the type of machine. Side beam is preferred.
