Questions and Technical Responses

Question 1: How would the K-Flex insulation be attached to the metal ducts and ISO 9705 walls?

Respsonse 1: The K-flex insulation will be attached to the metal ducts and ISO 9705 walls with an adhesive or studs. The Contract Lab will provide the adhesive and/or the studs.

Questions 2: The ASTM E800 provides options for measuring the different toxic gases. The ASTM E800 indicates for specific gases the FTIR method requested will provide “poorly formed peaks”. This should be clarified for each gas requested.

Response 2: The Draeger tube detection method shall be used to verify/detect the peak concentration for any gases stated (in ASTM E800) to produce “poorly formed peaks”. Reported in parts per million

(ppm).

Questions 3: Soot collection is completely optional, or must one method be followed? What is the meaning of “when possible”?

Response 3: Soot collection is necessary. Both methods shall be used to collect a soot measurement. If it is impossible to implement a collection cartridge to correlate the flow rate within the duct, the quantity of soot collected and the opacity of the smoke then the second collection method alone shall be utilized. If a collection cartridge is used, the second method shall also be implemented in order to correlate the two measurements.

Questions 4: What types of engineering and technical support are being requested? The PWS of the solicitation describes the test set-up and procedure. So what is expected of the test lab for each section?

Response 4: A full support laboratory is requested by this performance work statement which means that a full engineering, and technical support, for the material procurement of steel, K-flex, adhesive, studs, soot collection, test procedure, test results, test report, are requested. As well as the necessary personnel to construct any and all necessary test specimen as well as perform all testing, analyze results and report the final results as well as all actions taken to setup and perform the testing.

Questions 5: In the ISO 9705 test method, only the required parts are relevant for this solicitation?

Additional test results and Annexes are not required?

Response 5: Test results as stated in Section 12 and ANNEX E shall be reported. All Annex Sections shall be followed in order to perform the test to the ISO 9705 standard.
