(b) DWG PR16006 Weld detail drawing

(c) SAE AMS 2680C Electron-Beam Welding for Fatigue Critical Applications

(d) Contractor’s NSWCCD approved weld schedule for each plug geometry

2.1 Material:

2.10 The plugs are machined from continuous cast nickel aluminum bronze, ASTM B-505 alloy C95800, and the end caps are nickel aluminum bronze, ASTM B-150 alloy C63200. Molded inside the plug is a cured viscoelastic that is temperature sensitive.

2.11 The Contractor shall separate, mark, and secure all Government Furnished Property (GFP) for the duration of the contract. Any excess GFP is to be shipped back to the Government with the finished parts.

2.2 Preparation: The contractor shall clean plug weld surfaces to remove oxide using fine grit emery cloth and an acetone wipe prior to welding. Acetone may not come in contact with the cured viscoelastic.

After the plugs and caps are cleaned, the Contractor shall assemble and EB welded in accordance with the drawings and applicable documents outlined in section 1.0 and 2.0.

2.3 Weld Requirements: The Contractor shall adhere to the requirements for welding and nondestructive testing provided in DWG PR16006 and PR14012 and the requirements herein.

2.4 Weld Set-up: Prior to production welding of each lot, the contractor shall weld a set-up piece using the parameters of the NSWCCD-approved weld schedule for the plug geometry to be welded. This is to demonstrate 100% weld penetration. The set-up piece will be sectioned, polished and etched, and the weld penetration measured and recorded by the contractor. A Government representative will be present to witness the welding of the set-up piece, and to ensure plug markings continuity.

3.0 Inspection/Acceptance: All production welds shall be 100% inspected by the contractor for defects at 5X minimum magnification. Upon completion of welding activities, an inspection report (Form 1423) shall be provided to the government upon delivery of the completed lot.

4.0 Records/Data:

4.1 The Contractor shall provide a Certificate of Conformance for each lot of plugs welded. This certificate shall be included with the plugs at time of material pick up. Information regarding the certificate of conformance can be found at FAR 46.504.

4.2 Certificates of Compliance and Inspection reports shall be provided together in a plastic bag and shall accompany the completed lot of plugs when delivered to the Government.

5.0 Marking: The contractor shall be responsible for maintaining all serial numbers associated with the plug assemblies by use of laser marking. Serial numbers shall be visible on the top and bottom of the plug at all times. Other marking systems may be substituted if approved in advance by the Government.

6.0 Government Furnished Property (GFP) Schedule: Regular and Large plugs will be delivered by the Government to the contractor’s facility. Each lot will be delivered to the contractor in accordance with each CLIN over the course of 18 months from contract award. Regular and Large plugs may arrive separately or together. NSWCCD will contact the contractor after date of award to schedule delivery of each lot at least one week prior. The contractor shall complete the welding operation within 30 days of receipt.

7.0 Logistics

7.1 Packaging: The Contractor shall package the completed plugs in accordance with best commercial practices. The contractor shall utilize the crates and packaging used to package the items for delivery to the contractor’s facility.
