About this file
This is a Purchase Description document prepared under FAR Part 11 that details the procurement requirements for MRI equipment by the Neurophysiology Imaging Facility (NIF).
The NIF requires two additional 16-channel preamplifier interface boxes from Takashima to support continued operation of three Takashima 16-channel receive arrays used for marmoset neuroimaging on a 7T MRI system. The existing inventory of two preamplifiers has demonstrated channel failures and extended repair timelines, creating operational risk and inadequate redundancy. The procurement will ensure uninterrupted access to high-quality imaging data for four active research groups—Reich, Leopold, Bourne, and Chudasama—and support efficient animal handling workflows. The salient characteristic requires full compatibility with the Bruker AVNeo console and Takashima receive arrays. Delivery is required within one year after receipt of order, with a one-year warranty effective upon product acceptance. The quantity is two sets, and no options are included in this procurement.

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose:
The Neurophysiology Imaging Facility (NIF) requires two additional 16-channel preamplifier interface boxes to ensure continued operation of three Takashima 16-channel receive arrays used for marmoset neuroimaging on the NIF 7T MRI system.
These arrays have delivered state-of-the-art sensitivity and parallel imaging performance over the past five years, supporting high-quality data acquisition for multiple NIH-funded projects.
Only two preamplifiers were originally provided, permitting one system to operate in the scanner while the second supported animal preparation. Over the past two years, each preamplifier has developed failed channels, and repair timelines have been prolonged.
This configuration no longer provides adequate operational redundancy and presents risk of imaging downtime.
To ensure uninterrupted support for four active research groups—Reich, Leopold, Bourne, and Chudasama—NIF intends to procure two additional 16-channel preamplifier interface boxes. This action will maintain uninterrupted access to high-quality 7T MRI data, protect study timelines, support efficient animal handling workflows, and enable continued use and future expansion of the Takashima coil platform.
2. Background Information and Objective:
NIF operates a dedicated 7T MRI system for structural, functional, and diffusion imaging in anesthetized and awake marmosets. The three Takashima 16-channel receive arrays, acquired five years ago, have consistently produced high signal-to-noise ratio and accelerated imaging performance essential for advanced neuroimaging studies.
Each receive array requires a compatible 16-channel preamplifier interface. The current inventory of two aging preamplifiers has demonstrated susceptibility to channel failure, and extended repair times have exposed vulnerability in system redundancy. Given the high utilization of the 7T MRI system by multiple laboratories, lack of available preamplifiers directly impacts scanner availability and research productivity.
The objective is to establish sufficient hardware redundancy by acquiring two additional 16-channel preamplifier interface boxes to ensure continuous scanner readiness, preserve data quality standards, and sustain ongoing and future marmoset neuroimaging programs at NIF.
