The engines shall not exceed an EPA Tier rating of III, shall conform to International Maritime Organization (IMO) Stage 2 requirements and be EU Stage IIIA compliant to meet current EPA standards. The engine lubrication systems shall be a gear driven lube oil pump with duplex oil filters and lubricated by a single lubricant used by both the propulsion system and reverse gear. The recommended lubricate oil change for the engine shall not be less than 250 operating hrs. The engine cooling be a fresh water closed system with a salt water plate core heat exchanger. The engine cooling heat exchanger shall have a fuel cooling system mounted in-line with the heat exchanger. The engine salt/fresh cooling water shall be circulated by a single self-priming mechanical pump. The engine starting systems shall have a 24 DC volt single starter system. The engine MUST have an emergency override shutdown system that can be connected and operates electrically as well a manual initiation option. The auto shutdown system must be connected to the existing Fire System which shuts down if the system is energized (if engine exceeds 115% of rated engine RPM load). The engine combustion air system MUST be sequential turbo chargers and blowers with twin water cooled exhaust turbochargers with the exhaust outlet housing facing toward the rear of engine and include Walker Engineering AIRSEP combustion air filter systems. Engine governor and fuel pump systems must have electronic governor packages and electronic or mechanical fuel pumps. The flywheel housings shall be a SAE No.1 design. This requirement is for a left hand rotation engine or counterclockwise. If engine system has an optional computer package, the vendor shall provide three (3) sets of maintenance and parts manuals along with three electronic hardware programs and two (2) laptop computers to support the maintenance, supply, upkeep and troubleshooting procedures for the engine packages. The laptop computers shall be fully ready to support all mentioned requirements.

REVERSE GEARS: The vendor MUST provide twelve (12) marine reverse gear and control systems. The reverse gears must be compatible with the proposed engine. The reverse gear shall have a forward and reverse direction and have detent capability controls which limit switching gear from forward to reverse in emergency situations that could cause damage to the reverse gear. The reverse gears MUST have the capability to operate in either the forward or reverse mode when the vessel is underway and traveling in the forward direction. The port propeller shaft rotation when in the forward direction must be controlled by reverse gear direction, example, the port left hand rotation shall utilize the aft direction of the reverse gear to go forward. The starboard right hand rotation shall use the forward direction of the gear to go forward. The reverse gear must have a gear ratio which is comparable to the engine RPM demand which allows the engine to operate up to the maximum engine RPM rating.(2:50 to 1 but not more than 3:00 to 1). The reverse gear shall have an oil cooling devise which is cooled by water from the diesel engines cooling water pumps and capable of being cleaned by onboard maintenance personnel. The gear MUST have an output shaft and flange which accepts a four (4) inch shaft boss coupling. The gear must have controls which operate in conjunction with a quad diesel engine single throttle control for each engine and reverse gear. The gear must be resilient mounted and capable of supporting the rear of the propulsion engine and reverse gear. The gear shall be capable of performing free wheel rotation of the trailing shaft if the cooling water becomes non-functional. The gear must have an alarm system which sounds if the oil temperature exceeds the safe operating temperature of the gear. The gear must have the capability to identify the internal and trailing shaft oil pressure reading along with oil temperature readings. The reverse gear vendor will be responsible for providing all necessary technical manuals and electronic program packages. The preferred reverse gear oil lubricant is the same lubricant that is used in the propulsion engine. The vendor must provide reverse gear spare parts consisting of four (4) complete sets of oil filters, gaskets, external hoses or hard-lines for water and oil.

The instrumentation shall be a graphical unit (marine power display or marine analog power display). The analog instrumentation system shall be required in the engine room and forward wheelhouse station. The aft wheelhouse shall not require instrumentation engine reading systems, only the forward and aft engine controls. All wiring harnesses and all components to install as a quad engine system must be provided. The total engine controls requirement is 24 sets. The total instrumentation packages is 24 sets.

PROPELLERS: Construction: Nickel Aluminum Bronze, 5 bladed, 4 in tapered hub x 40 inch diameter x 49 inch pitch, blade area 0.85 (85% of propeller is blades).
