About this file

This document contains the specifications for a Measuring Ionization Chamber (MIC) System, which is a reference smoke density measuring device used in conjunction with the UL smoke box for testing smoke alarms and detectors. The key details are:

The MIC system measures the smoke density within the UL smoke box as specified in UL 217 and UL 268. It includes a smoke ionization chamber with specific technical requirements, a flow control unit, a control unit, and an air sampling vacuum pump. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) intends to use the MIC system to test smoke alarms to the UL 217 standard at its National Product Testing and Evaluation Center (NPTEC).

This is a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the MIC system, which must be provided on a firm-fixed price basis. Quotes are due by August 30, 2024 at 12:00pm Eastern. Award will be made to the lowest priced technically acceptable offeror, subject to available funding and offeror responsibility. The solicitation includes standard FAR clauses applicable to commercial item procurements.
