About this file

This document contains detailed specifications for a McPhail Glass Fruit Fly Trap, prepared for the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). The specification document describes a specialized glass insect trap designed for trapping fruit flies, with precise manufacturing requirements including being blown in an iron or steel mold using clear glass with minimal color tinge. The trap must have specific dimensions, a minimum liquid capacity of 500ml, and be constructed with a 16-gauge galvanized neck wire formed into a hook extending at least nine inches above the trap neck. Traps will be packaged in cases of 12 and must meet USA freight classification standards with a minimum bursting strength of 275 lbs per square inch.

The trap specifications include precise technical requirements such as allowing a #9 rubber stopper to fit snugly, with specific stopper dimensions (top diameter 1.772 inches, bottom diameter 1.457 inches, length 0.984 inches), and a maximum weight limit of 3 lbs. CDFA will provide the rubber stoppers separately. The glass trap must be free of bubbles and imperfections, with no pronounced ridge at mold joints, and exposed edges must be fused. The traps will be separated in the shipping box by cardboard dividers to prevent breakage, indicating careful attention to preservation and transportation considerations.
